How old to paint nails?

I was thinking it might be fun to paint A's finger and/or toe nails.  How young is too young for that?  Of course I'm afraid to start a trend where she has to have them painted...but I thought it would be fun.

Re: How old to paint nails?

  • I know twins who had their toes painted at birth so that people could tell them apart. As they got older the nail painting was a special occasion thing - along the lines of face painting/cookie baking/etc

I think it's fun. I say go for it :-)

  • IMHO

    Toes: 2 years

Fingers, as long as she isn't a thumb sucker 2 years

But I would only use that non toxic stuff not the real stuff. Again that is just my opinion, I don't think there is a wrong age to start. But if you do it now be prepared for it to become a thing, for a while my niece was getting hers done every other day!

  • What about using those crayola washable markers to "paint" her nails?

    Lilypie Fifth Birthday tickers
  • I painted DD toes a light color one day when i was painting mine.  I've only done it the one time, but it was fun.  I wouldn't paint her fingernails this young, but i think toes are fine as long as the color isn't saying "look at me"

Taya likes to "painted" my nails with her crayons. Each one was a different color!

A few weeks ago she saw me painting my toe nails and asked me to do her fingernails. I did. She's going to be 4 in a few weeks. It's nothing I would do regularly. She hasn't asked again either.

  • I've been painting DD's toe nails for a while now. Maybe at around 5months. I searched and searched for non-toxic nail polish and I only do it when I'm painting my own. Which isn't very often. She won't sit still for it yet. And she is curious to the point where I can't do mine if she's awake anymore. So I wait to paint my nails until she's asleep. Then I easily get hers done too. She has a little storage bin of about 6 or 7 polishes now.

I only do her toe nails though. She sticks her hands in her mouth to often.

  • My mom and I got mani/pedis and took Isabel with us (like a month ago). The girls at the shop totally wanted to paint her nails Smile

We didn't, but the toes are tempting! One more year or so for toes... longer for fingers
