3rd Trimester

If you purchased a convertible crib, or are a second time mom with one...

Are you getting the guard rail?  Or for second time moms, did you really need the guard rail?  I've already purchased the convertible crib, but need to order the conversion rails and the gurard rail now.  Do I need the guard rail?  I can't decide.  It's only $60, but that's still $60 I could spend elsewhere on baby.  Opinions on this??  Thanks!

  • We've decided to wait and get the?guard?rails later after we get everything else we need. Besides baby won't be using them for a long while so no rush.?

  • Mine came with my conv. crib, but since the new baby will be using DD's crib i had to buy a toddler bed anyway so i never used it maybe i will with DS:) But DD's toddler bed has a guard rail, i knew she would need it because she moves alot in bed, i would spring for it.

  • I'm not getting the guard rail.  The mattress adjusts low enough that I'm not worried about Hayden hurting himself rolling out of bed.  If he's big enough to sleep in the day bed part, he's probably big enough that he's falling down from running around all of the time anyway.  Besides, DH and I have both fallen out of bed when we were kids and turned out fine.  I'll spend my money on other baby things.

  • Munire was giving the conversion kit free with the purchase of a crib and dresser combo, so we have it in our storage unit.

  • My advice?  If you want to convert the bed later, get everything you need now.  If you wait, it might not be available.  We ran into this problem with our crib.
  • I ordered the guard rail with our bed and I think I paid about $50 for it.  In my opinion, I would rather pay than have my LO roll out of bed.

There are some other alternatives if you don't want to buy the one that comes with the bed.  There are hide away rails that are cheaper at BRU and other stores.  I've seen them run anywhere from $20 to $40.

  • No harm either way...we have not used ours yet and we may never use them.  I personally would wait, especially if you plan on having more kids.  Our son is 18 months and we just transitioned him into a big boy bed since number two is going to be here in a few months.  He now has his own room with furniture he will have for a very long time so the rails are useless for another 2 years.

i didnt with DS about 4 1/2 years ago--we ended up taking down one side and he is still using it (like  day bed) for his regualar bed.  Now once this baby comes we will just put the side back up and then get DS a big boy bed . ..  Im thinking after 4 1/2 plus another 4 1/2 years of use im not going to want to keep it anyways.  in short, im glad we didnt buy it!

  • They stopped selling the guard rails for ours the week we bought it, we decided to go without.
  • We already have an extra bed so when it comes time for a bed the LO will be sleeping on that.  Also we hope to have another child sometime and I'm pretty sure the LO will not be out of the convertible crib bed by the time we need it to be a crib again.
  • we bought ours with the crib, but now the crib is in use for #2 so we didnt get a chance to use them. I am glad we got them though, b/c this will be our last baby so we will use the toddler rail with #2 and then convert into the full bed

  • I'll be buying a "generic" guard rail when I need it. That way I can use it on DD#1's crib and then later on DD#2's crib and not have to worry about matching or fitting (had to get a second crib anyway since #1 is still in hers and probably will be for a while).

All of this. No to the guard rails but I do still need to get the conversion rails that make it a full size bed.
