3rd Trimester

Can you still get up off the floor

by yourself? If you can do you? It just occoured to me while I was triming the dog's toenails. I can & have been getting up and down off the floor by myself when no one is here. I just wonder if I should still be doing this?

On one hand I think it is good to keep moving as much as possible, on the other I am a worrier by nature. What do you think?

Re: Can you still get up off the floor

  • I think, yeah. I can't think of anything that could be harmed by getting up off the floor by yourself.

  • I can still get up off the floor. Just takes a little more effort to roll my self to my side to stand up but I can still do it by myself.
  • This made me laugh because honestly, I can't.  My DH has to help me get up off the floor, because the carpal tunnel in my wrists hurt so bad that I can't put that much weight on them to push me up!
  • I sit on the floor a lot when I'm at home and while I'm definitely slower getting up I can still do it by myself. Sometimes I kind of have to roll over to my knees and go from there, but I still do it.
  • As long as you can without hurting yourself, I think it's fine. I personally have to get on all fours before getting off the ground now. The hubs finds it quite humorous.

  • I can get up off the floor just fine still. My only problem is our couch. It's super comfy and L-shaped...and I can't make myself stop sitting in the corner of it, DH has to peel me off the couch about six times a day.
  • It's not the most graceful thing, but yes, I can get myself off the floor.  & the couch.  & bed.

Me too. I get all nestled down in it and I'm stuck. Glad to know I'm not the only one.

  • I do it all the time.  There have been a few times DH has been around and offered to help so I let him but it still feels more comfortable to do it on my own.
  • At 29 weeks I had no problems with it. Now, it's pretty laughable and takes multiple steps (turn over on all 4s, brace some furniture, put on knee up... etc), but I don't feel helpless if I sit on the floor.

  • Its not easy, but I do it.  I tend to try to stay off the floor...I kind of get on all fours and do it.  The hardest part is having the extra weight and not being in any kind of shape to  what feels like benchpress myself.

  • the best way to get up off the floor, and no its not graceful, is to get on all fours and push yourself up butt first (think of how kids learn to get up off the floor) this is best as it doesnt pull on your stomach muscles and helps stretch out your thighs. I just read about this in my Husband-coached childbirth book.

  • I can, although it takes a bit more effort these days!

I know its disgusting, but being dragged around BRU by my DH last night for a long time I just had to sit on the floor. Yeah there was a bench just around the corner, but he was enthralled by something so I just sat right there.

This and last night I had to use a chair to push up on... it is getting humerous, but I think if you go slowly and don't hurt yourself you are good.

This---if DH is home and in the room he will help me and laugh at me at the same time!

  • Yes, I can. These days I definitely groan like an old lady when I do though.
