I'm considering an opportunity that has been offered. My old prof (at a podunk school, but one at which I was very happy as an undergrad--not a big name but not too concerned about presige here) told me that if ever I wanted to quit my job (yes, please!) and come back for an MPA, she'd give me a GA. I'd get paid peanuts to work 20 hours a week as an asst., but I'd get the masters tuition-free, and classes are at night. Right now I work full time, at a job I hate, and while I'd like to stay home for a bit and have another child, I'm not sure it would be smart to totally remove myself from the professional world. This seems like it might be a good balance. Working during the day part time and classes some nights--with more time during the day with my child than I currently have--seem like it's doable to you? I have a law degree so I'm familiar with grad school demands, but I did that w/o a child, and I imagine it's not exactly the same as a masters program--or is it?
Any feedback will be appreciated!
Re: Masters in Public Admin anyone? Please come in!
I do have an MPA...but i finished it before I got PG with DD....and I was aslo working full time and taking classes.
I guess I would look at what is required and how much a time commitment would be required for your part time postion- could you do it at home? Would your LO be in part time DC? is it a full time Program- so 3 classes and then your GA?
at any rate- GOOD LUCK
