3rd Trimester

Am I being neurotic...

or should I be concerned...

I've never been a worrier but I haven't felt the baby move since I woke up, tried eating, lauing on my side, walking, and nothing. Last night I was up b/c baby had the hiccups, do I call doctor? I feel like I shouldn't be so crazy but what if something is wrong... I hate calling the doctor for every little thing.

Re: Am I being neurotic...

  • I am a big believer THIS late in pregnancy, that babies don't have as much ROOM, but I would try to get that LO moving.  My doc stresses the importance of movement EVERY appt. even at this last one, even though the babe is running out of space. I say if you go another few hours without much movement, to at least call.  Otherwise, he may just be napping.  It is late enough in the pregnancy now that when there is lack of movement, it could be something else, and I would definitely be concerned if my LO just stopped...try getting LO going again and if he doesn't, call. There is nothing wrong with just picking up the phone and asking!!  Good luck!

  • i agree with PP, i notice that LO moves a lot less often and really only get one or two episodes of really good movement out of her at this point.  maybe kick back, relax, eat some ice cream and give it a little longer.  after that, it never hurts to call your doctor.
  • Ice cold water or some (orange) juice. Lay down and don't distract yourself with TV or anything. If after the first hour you don't feel anything, get up and move/walk around for about 10-15 minutes and sit down again. Wouldn't hurt to drink more ice water/juice ... if no movement in two hours call your doctor.

  • My doctor said that the moving less often at the end thing just isn't true, they may just be smaller movements, and that you should do a kick count and call right away if there isn't enough movement.?
  • Drink some OJ (or some kind of sugary drink), lay down and push gently on your belly.  If that doesn't get you some movement, call your doctor!
