I made an appointment with an RE and was so excited. The they called back to go over my insurance info and said that this dr. was out of network and because of my $1500 co-pay just the consult would be $350. Thank goodness the other dr. in the area does take my insurance...however the test facilities she works with doesn't so I'm going to have to make sure everything is routed to the proper place. I cried like a baby! Fertiles can have as many kids as they want don't have to pay an effing thing!! It's not fair.

It sounds like the $1500 is a deductible and not a copay.
Do you know what % the insurance will cover once you meet the deductable?
Our deductible is $9500, but once we meet that, it covers EVERYTHING at 100% for the rest of the year. Not just IVF, all medical costs.

Yes. And I know it is a small deductible. Everything else is pretty much covered, but I have to pay a 25% fee for each IUI/IVF. But why pay 350 for a visit when I can go to the other dr. and just pay my 20 dollar copay? At least for a consult. I think a consult should not be 350 dollars. I'm not taking that kind of risk for a dr. I may not even choose.

Life isn't fair, but that statement makes absolutely no sense.
Meaning that their conception is free and then prenatal and L&D is mostly covered by insurance.
I agree that the statement doesn't make much sense. I do understand the frustration regarding being properly diagnosed and treated through insurance, as I have PCOS myself, and will be seeing an RE in October. However, infertility is a medical problem. Just like someone with another medical disorder, we have to pay to be treated.
With that said, I don't know a single person who has had a baby that hasn't had to pay through the nose for prenatal care and labor/delivery costs.
My friends and family have never had any issues. I guess they all have great insurance.
