Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Is it wrong to take the baby to my PP check up?

I have my appointment tomorrow.  He does really well in his carseat and generally just sleeps (but I probably just jinxed it), and I already have my neighbor watching him for a few hours in the afternoon, so I plan to take him to the doctor's appointment in the morning.  Are they going to be annoyed with me?

Re: Is it wrong to take the baby to my PP check up?

  • I took my DD and it wasn't a problem at all!

  • I had to take all of my girls to all of my appts.

I'm barely in the door when 2 or 3 people are running over to me to help me.  My kids have spent more time hanging in the doctor/staff lounge....they should get paid.

My friend delivered with the same OBs and actually nursed her DD during her pp exam.

I think they're used to it.

  • I think a lot of moms take their LOs to their PP appointment. I will be taking my younger DS.
  • They'd be silly to be annoyed with you.  Some doctors actually ask you to bring the babe, so they can check both of you over, particularly if you had an instrumental or otherwise difficult delivery.

At 6w PP, it can be really hard to find someone you trust to watch the LO, and if you're breastfeeding it's harder to be away from the kid, and times for doctor's appointments are so uncertain (they run later and later as the day wears on)...  If anyone says anything to you about it, they're nuts.

  • I took dd and when she started to fuss just a little a nurse came to get her and her and the front office ladies played with her for a bit. They were thrilled to see her!
  • Thanks!  I feel better about it.

  • My doctor WANTS the babues there. I think he just likes seeing them again.  I took DS, but DH was there to help. I took DD (without DH) and, of course, she decided she wanted to be fed right then.  One of the nurses was more than happy to feed her and keep her company until I was finished.

  • It's common to see the babies at my OB's office.  In fact, they love to see the LO's. :)  I had to postpone my visit due to AF, but I will definitely be taking DS with me.
  • I had a two week PP check up for high BP and didn't bring LO and got yelled at by the nurse.  I'll be bringing her to my 6 week to make up for it.
  • I brought DD, I think the OB was happy to see her!

  • Nope.  Take him.  They're used to it.  I had DH come home from work early to watch DS, and my doc actually said, "Where's the baby?"

  • I brought DS with and it was not a problem. My OB was really glad I brought him with!

  • Most Drs & nurses want to see the babies. When I went in for my 6 week PP visit DD started to fuss & the nurse was more than happy to pick her up and calm her while I got checked out. My Dr even told me I could stay awhile after and use the room to nurse her if I needed
  • No... and infact I think a lot of mothers do, I took my LO and DH went with us too (we wanted to talk to Dr about our birth control options).  There were a lot of mothers there with their babies.
  • When I made my appt. the nurse told me not to forget to bring LO with me.
  • Most women that I know do take their LO's to the PP check up since their SO's are usually back to work by then!
  • Mine came with, he slept the entire time. My OB was excited to see I brought him too

  • I did and when he started fussing the nurses took him. I found him a half hour later in the nurses station being passed around lol. They loved it.
  • I took mine with me, and I know a lot of other women did the same.
