Infertility

CD 1 today : (

I really don't know how much longer I can take this. I feel like I can't do this even one more month, but I would not be able to give up on getting pregnant.  I will start my 3rd round of clomid this month.  Would go to IUI after 3 rounds of clomid? I don't even feel hopefull for IUI because it increases our chances from 8% to 13% of getting pregnant. That's really not a big jump considering the cost difference.  Is it really possible to be totally healthy, me and DH, and never get pregnant. Life sucks and isn't fair.

Re: CD 1 today : (

  • I'm so sorry about your BFN. They are so hard. (((hugs))) We're unexplained and we did two rounds of Clomid w/ TI before moving to injectable IUIs. We'll do three IUI injectable cycles before moving to IVF. I would move onto IUIs after three rounds of Clomid if I were you. Clomid is just the first step. There's still so much you can do to get pg. Good luck!

  • It is very frustrating to be in your situation.  Unfortunately, too many of us are in the same boat.  Don't give up yet though and don't get disheartened.  There are so many are so many options out there.  My RE says sometimes shaking things up a bit by changing medications or protocols is helpful.  With regards to IUI and cost though...if your insurance is paying for the monitoring on clomid than the cost of IUI usually runs about $800-1000.  Maybe less depending on where you live.  It is only IUI with injectibles that costs a lot more because of the medicines (that is if your insurance won't cover it).

    Good luck

  • I feel the same way.  We have been trying about the same time as you and it is so frustrating and defeating to get a BFN.  Sometimes I don't think I can do it anymore especially around CD 1.  Talk to your Dr. and see if you can do IUI's.  Even though they are more expensive there are many SAIF'ers who have gotten pregnant with them.  We are about to have our third IUI and I try to draw strength from all the IUI BFP's.

  • I agree with pp.. maybe you should do IUI.  maybe it's because my insurance covers it, but my RE also explained that the clomid sometime makes your CM so thick that it actually makes it harder for the sperm to get past. the IUI will give you that extra advantage.

good luck.. baby dust for you this month!

  • Sorry about your BFN. AF came for me last night too. I am not sure I would keep doing clomid if you aren't getting results. Do you know for sure you are ovulating, so they see follies? Maybe you need a trigger.

We did 5 injectible cycles, and the 3rd worked for us, but then the next didn't. I really think it's just somtimes luck and odds. Someone on my local board did 6 cycles of clomid and the 6th worked for her. I have done 5 IUIs and just had the one work. Sometimes I just don't know how anyone gets pregnant.

    Good Luck with this month.

  • Thanks everyone. I know I respond to the clomid, but I want to move on to IUI. My RE said when I do IUI i could start with clomid and a single injection for 3 cycles and if not pregnant after that then injects/IUI. I am just nervous to go to the next step because if that doesn't work then it is IVF and we can't afford that.  I am also dreading putting all this money into IUI meds. I will do it but it sucks knowing others can just get pregnant without any help when I have to pay thousands of dollars in hopes of getting pregnant. My DH is also not fond of the idea of giving a sample every month for IUI. He just thinks it will happen when it happens.
  • i am kind of in your boat....I got pg very easily the first time with clomid a year ago but we lost the babies...I respond to both clomid and femara but my lining is thin - at least it is about 5-6.5 mm when I have mature follies the day before trigger - don't know if it thickens up to an 8 by the time I ovulate but I guess that is possible.

We have been trying again for 5-6 months - nearing the time we got pg last year....I ovulate, DH is fine, my ute and tubes look fine and I keep hearing "you got pg once" - I carried to 17 wks so it wasn't a clotting or genetic problem or MTHFR (plus I've been tested for some of this) - and yet no one can really tell me why it is taking so much longer this time....

we have no iui/ivf coverage either - we only have coverage for meds/ultrasounds on TI cycles....I am moving on to injects soon if they can't confirm I am ovulating on my own....I don't want to use IUI because I feel it is a waste of money - i.e. we got pg once through TI and IUI doesn't up chances that much....I am really thinking they could be a physical block somewhere this time. and IUI won't help that..- I would rather bank the money for a few months and do IVF or a mini-stim IVF.....

Yea it is so frustrating when nobody can tell you why.  What is a mini-stim IVF? I have never heard of that.
