Success after IF

making baby food basics

I'm thinking about making my own baby food but have no clue where to start.  Can ayone give me some recs on books, links, sites etc to get started.  Also, how much time does it take?  Do you make a whole bunch for the week?  Can you just share your process with me.

We're thinking it'll be the most cost effective since two of those little jars per two meals a day will start to add up real quick.

Thanks :)

  • As pp said, I found wholesomebabyfood.com to be a great resource.    You can make large batches at a time and freeze them.  It's super easy and I thought it was fun.

That is the only site I have used. I have heard good things about  the book Top 100 Baby Purees also.

It is super easy. So far I have only made peas, sweet potatos and bananas. I baked 5 large sweet potatoes and then scooped out all the insides put them in the blender with some water and presto, baby food! I then poured it into ice cube trays and froze it. Then i took the frozen cubes and put into ziplocs. I did frozen peas....just made sure they had no seasoning or salt added. Steamed them in the microwave and then put into ice cube trays. Each bag made 1 full tray. I just put all of them into one large quart ziploc and take out what I need from the bag.

Bananas I just broke into pieces and put in the blender, added some formula and pureed it. I just froze two ice cube trays from a bunch of bananas this morning.

When I unthaw them I usually just stick them in the microwave. I add a little formula if I need to thin them out any. Each cube is about an ounce serving.

Honestly it is super easy and I love doing it. it doesn't really take that much time. I have only made sweet potatoes the one time and the supply has lasted me a month.

I have found that my blender works great. I only have a small food processor and wanted to make sure I was going to stick with this before buying a large one....turns out I don't really need it at this point. Good luck!
