Success after IF

"Fluffy" and FETs

Just this past Friday, DH and I found out that our fresh DE cycle was a bust - my beta was negative.  We're anxious to move right onto our FET, but my mother has some real concerns about my weight being a factor in why the fresh cycle didn't stick.  I'm definitely "fluffy" - there's no doubt about it - but I'm scheduled for my FET on 9/8.... not exactly a ton of time to lose any weight.

I'm not sure how to ask this but, are there any success stories of "fluffy" girls doing an FET?  I'd love to hear them.

Thank you!

Re: "Fluffy" and FETs

  • Thanks to PCOS and IVF drugs, I packed on 20 pounds after coming off the pill 2.5 years ago.  I am right on the borderline, BMI-wise, of "normal" and "overweight."  My RE never said anything about needing to lose weight for FET.  She said losing a few pounds might kick start my ovulation, but that has nothing to do with FET.

Even with the added weight, I was able to get pregnant via FET.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • I didn't have an FET (I chose to do another fresh instead) but my RE said my weight was never a factor when he gave me my chance of success with both IVF and FET.  He quoted a couple studies another clinic had done about weight and IVF/FET's and also said that hundreds if not thousands of overweight and obese women get pregnant just fine every day, why would it be different with IVF/FET?

I look to be about the same size as you based on the pic in your sig too, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

  • Accoring to "the charts" (to which I never really pay too much attention) I was 60 lbs overweight when we started treatments - how's that for "fluffy"!  Anyways, my RE suggested losing weight, but with the stress of IF and all the hormones, not only did I not lose any weight, but I probably gained another 10.  I know it's not an FET, but my weight didn't seem to have an effect.

  • I am fluffy thanks to 4 years of IF, meds, stress etc... and my RE was mildly concerned about my weight. He said it certainly was not the cause of my 3 failed fresh cycles, but losing couldn't hurt either. Another RE told me it was a non-issue. I managed to lose about 15lbs before my successful FET, but I really don't think it had a single thing to do with my BFP, because I was at this weight for at least one of my failed fresh cycles. I think it had more to do with thawing my 3d embies and growing them out to blast stage. I would put it out of your mind and focus on having a great FET cycle!!! GOOD LUCK!

  • I'm not "fluffy," but I'll share my story. About a week before FET #1, my doctor (actually not my regular doctor, but one of the doctor's in the practice that would be doing the FET b/c my doc was OOT) said she wanted me to go on a no carb diet. She has seen studies where this realy helped, blah, blah, blah.  Well, I listened and changed my diet drastically a week before the transfer-BFN. I continued the low carb/low sugar diet until FET #2 (the next month) and lost about 10 or 12 pounds. BFN. I stopped that and ate what I usually would have and quickly put the weight back on (and probably more!) before FET #3. BFP!  I have no idea if it REALLY had anything to do with it, but I do feel that altering your diet right before a transfer can really throw your body off. If you want to loose the weight, it needs to be done over time and not a real quick crash diet before the FET. If you want to go ahead with the FET, I personally wouldn't change my diet too much.

I hope that makes sense!! Good luck!

  • I think if weight was a factor your RE would have said. I was overweight, then had a failed fresh cycle, ate through that depression, gained another 20lbs. then had my FET, which stuck. Good Luck!

I think weight is more of an issue if your weight is causing you not to ovulate.  And if there is an issue, it's more likely to be with the eggs.

I'm overweight and got pregnant on my 4th IVF (second frozen) after 2 miscarriages and one BFN.

I had the thinnest lining, the lowest graded embryos and transferred fewer than in any  other cycle - but here I am.  I think that IVF is a crapshoot of sorts - you just never know why a perfect cycle doesn't work and a completely screwy one does.

I'm sorry to hear that this cycle didn't work.  My fingers are crossed for your FET.  As for your mom, I'm sure she's trying to be helpful, but maybe explain to her that you don't need her planting any additional seeds of anxiety - that if your DR was concerned, he would have said so.
