RE appt today no more clomid, onto femara

Went to the RE for baseline u/s today, fully expecting to be moved up to 150mg Clomid (no response at 50 and 100).  But, he decided to go with Femara (2/day) this cycle.  Still thinks the injections are the only way to go, but I am excited to give this a try.

Anyone respond to Femara that didnt with Clomid?  Did you take your pills at the same time or break them up morning and evening?

He said I should feel no side effects.

Also, how much did the script cost you (if you dont mind sharing)?  It should be covered by my ins,  but I think it is tier 3 for me.

Re: RE appt today no more clomid, onto femara

  • go to femara.com - there is a voucher for 30 free pills - your doctor has to sign....

i responded to clomid but my lining was thin (I got pg once).....I moved to femara and did two cycles - I responded and produced 2 follies first and then 1 follie - my lining still seemed a little thin and I didn't get pg...

we are on to injectibles - femara works for a lot of people, just not me....

  • I o'd with both. No differences.  It was $30 copay for me but I think it costs $140 out of pocket because they made a mistake when my husband picked it up for me and then corrected later so we paid $140 at first.

I would agree with your doctor if you have some sort of hypothalamus dysfunction that then affects your pituitary and then your ovaries don't work well because of that then you probably need the injectibles to skip the hypothalamic-pituitary axis altogether. The injectibles will give your ovaries what they need... FSH and LH.

But heck...give the Femara a try and maybe save yourself some serious$$$ if it does work.

  • I had a much better response with Femera verses clomid.  I took clomid for three cycles and only O'd on the first.  I actually O'd will all three cycles of Femera.  The femera for me was $50.00 but i am OOP.  I did not have any side effects from femera.  Good Luck!

  • I didn't respond to clomid and I'm starting the higher dose of femara this cycle since I didn't respond to the lower one. Ugh.

Anyway - I think the prescription was initially $144, but I paid about $24 for the 5.0 dose with my insurance. I was actually surprised it was that high. I don't even think I paid $1 for the clomid.
