For those who have had an HSG (TMI)

Just curious what the following two days were like.  I spotted until yesterday morning which was fine but today I needed to check CM because we're scheduled for TI tonight and I have a thick brown (almost dry) lining in my vag!  Sorry if this is TMI but I'm a little weirded out by it. Thank goodness I have Preseed, but has this happened to anyone else?

I'm assuming it's the betadine solution he used before hand.

Re: For those who have had an HSG (TMI)

  • I was told absolutely no TTC during an HSG month.

My RE considers HSGs to be a "break month". So there must be some medical reason why pregnancy is not encouraged before/after that procedure.

DH and I are not using protection, like we were told, but with my weight what it is... there's no way I'm going to O without meds so we're not worried about it.

  • I never check the lining of my vag so I can't speak to that, but I spotted heavily for about a week after and it was thick/dry/brown. I also thought it was the solution but I had the same thing happen after a SHG. I guess that's just the way I react to those tests.
  • I spotted for a couple days after procedure, and then some about 7 days later.  I called nurse and they said it was perfectly normal.

Really? I was told that that month was good to go. We even tried that month. The dr doing the HSG said that it was a great month to try because if blockage was my problem (it wasn't) then it was gone. I was told I couldn't TTC for 24-48 hours after the HSG, but that I could that month.

**ETA** Sorry! Forgot to answer the OP! I think it was the dye they put in.

That's interesting.  My RE said the month of an HSG is a good month to try because the HSG "cleans things out."  Especially if there is a blockage.

To the OP, I would assume it's the iodine too.  I would imagine things would be a little wonky for a few days.

My doctor said the same thing and he "prescribed" my timed intercourse for today.  I specifically asked if this was going to cancel out the cycle for me and he said absolutely not!

We're going for it!  I'm just a little skeeved by the "lining" issue.

  • maybe you misunderstood your doctor.  normally when you have an HSG, they tell you no baby making from CD1 until 24hrs after the HSG.  they dont want you to possible become preg (if you ovulate before the test) and become pregnant. I had my HSG last week and am doing my IUI today

this exactly. We were told to try like mad!

  • We were told to try too. But I think I ovulated on the left side this month anyway, so no chance there. I did have a resident tell me that there are eggs that migrate to the remaining tube from the tubeless ovary, whether or not that is a fairy tale I don't know.
  • My doctor also told me the month of the HSG was one of the best to try to get pregnant.  I haven't heard you should take a break at all!  I didn't have any spotting with mine, but everyone is different.  I wouldn't be too concerned about it.
