Did anyone do IF Accupunture?

I have my first appointment on Saturday and I am wondering what to expect.

Re: Did anyone do IF Accupunture?

  • I've gone twice already and it's WONDERFUL.  I feel calm for like 2 days after...I don't know if it'll help my FET cycle, but it's helping my mental heath for sure.

  • I did, and loved it. I'm still friends with my acu, even though i don't go any more.

::caveat:: this was my experience, yours may be slightly different

I filled out a questionnaire that I discussed with her, covering everything from food preferences to bowel activity to reproductive history and my cycles. She looked at my tongue and "listened" to my pulses (something she did at the start of every session), then she made an initial diagnosis and got me up on the table for some needles. I hung out for about 30-45 minutes in a dim room with soothing music, then she came in, took out the needles, and talked about next steps.

Where you'll get needles will depend on your acu diagnosis, and may change from visit to visit. if I was having other issues going on with my life/health, my needle placement changed.

    I hope you like it.

  • I have been going and I love it.  My experience is similar to Dr. Loretta's.  Also, I sometimes get a foot massage at the end!  I leave feeling soooo relaxed.

  • I have done acupuncture with one of my IUIs and my IVF.  I loved it for my IUI!  I was face up without electricity and laid on the table in a dark room for about 20 minutes with soothing music  The needles didn't hurt and it was super relaxing.

The protocal he used for my IVF was very different and wasn't as pleasant.  I was face down and he used electricity.  Sometimes the needles were very painful going in and coming out.  Once the needles were in and the "electrodes" turned on, I laid face down for 20-25 minutes in the dark with music.  That part was relaxing, but the needle pain was enough that I dreaded going towards the end.  I don't regret going, but I don't know if I will use acupuncture for IVF#2 simply because of costs.

Everyone's experience is different and I've never met or talked to anyone that didn't like it or wouldn't recommend it.  Despite my discomfort last time, I absolutely recommend trying it out.  Oh, the electricity isn't as scary as it sounds.  You don't get shocked, you just feel a tingle or twitch in your muscle.  Best of luck to you!

  • My experience is similar to the other posts. I am deathly afraid of needles but it didn't hurt too much, only in certain points. Gl!

  • My experience was also very similar to Dr. Loretta's, but everyone is different.  I didn't really feel relaxed, I didn't really feel anything.  Unfortunately, I got a BFN, so I'm not going to be doing acu for my FET.  It cost me about $500 for 5 sessions and I just don't have that $ anymore.

    Good Luck!

  • I love it.  I've been doing it for over 12 sessions.  I go once a week, and on the week of IUI, I go 2x.

The initial meeting, the doctor discusses your "issues" and your expectations from the acupuncture.  My first session also included the acupuncture.  She placed needles in diff parts of my feet, my belly, sides of my hands, and my head.  However, she's also targetting other areas which I want assistance in healing (i.e., allergies, migraines).

I def enjoy every visit.  I have notice my demeanor has changed, and I am overall more relaxed, not just the day of the session.
