I just want to help you all out so that you don't make the same mistake I did!
DO NOT EAT for at least 2 and a half hours before you test. Your sugar levels peak an hour after you eat. And you have to give them time to come back down in order to have the most accurate test results.
My diabetic mother smacked me when she found out I failed my 1 hour GD test because I ate a half hour before. The doctor didn't say to fast or to not eat before hand. During the 1 hour test they are pretty much testing to see where you peak at. It didn't help that my lunch was added to it and I peaked at 248.
I passed my 3 hour GD test though.
Re: 1 hour GD test advice from a 3rd tri...
Good advice! My advice is to make sure that they know you are there. With DS, I went into the lab, signed in and sat down. Everyone was in the back dealing with a blood draw on a toddler. By the time someone came up front to check me in, it was past the 1 hour mark and they couldn't do it. I had to drink the stuff again the next day.
The lab told me that if it happened again, to yell back that you were there for a timed test.
Me, too. I'm very confused!
My doc told me to eat like I normally would. They want to see how an extra surge of surge affects me. He told me not to fast.
Mine told me to not eat anything after midnight the night before the test. It's strange that everyone gets different advice.
