Infertility

Ok, I just read my Provera label....

It says not to use if you plan to become pregnant

Huh?  What the heck else would you use it for? LOL.

Re: Ok, I just read my Provera label....

  • provera isn't safe for pregnancy. If you have to go on progesterone for pg most people take prometrium for an oral medication. I switched to prometrium just for that reason, rather to be safe than sorry.

  • Good morning! LOL about the warning - it seems kinda counter-productive!!

It was my understanding that Provera was used to bring on AF and not ovulation. In other words, Provera should make you have your period but not necessarily cause you to ovulate. Often times women do not ovulate when they get their period and after trying a couple rounds of provera, they must take clomid (ladies who are on clomid - is this correct?) to bring about ovulation. Also, before I could take provera they had to do a blood test to check my level of hcg to make sure that I was not currently pregnant. If you are current pregnant and taking provera there is a high incident of birth defects. I also found this website talking about the use of provera:https://pregnancy.families.com/blog/fertility-medications-provera

"It is important to be absolutely certain that you are not pregnant prior to taking Provera. Your doctor will likely do a pregnancy test to ensure that the problem is not an undiscovered pregnancyimage. The reason for this is Provera is not considered safe for use during pregnancy. No woman should take it if she thinks she may be pregnant, due to negative side effects for the baby, including miscarriage and birth defects."

  • Gotcha....More evidence that I should fire my OB. You know, since he didn't even want to see me before prescribing it.

  • Honestly, I didn't know what the heck Met or Provera or Clomid was before August 5. Seriously - I couldn't even tell you the difference between AF and Ovulation. I have been doing a lot of research and I have a good partners (DH, RE and parents). If you arm yourself with knowledge then you can always make the correct choices. Utilizing these boards for questions (no matter how obvious it may seem later) is one of the BEST ways to get information. I love your questions/comments because I am learning so much too! Thanks for being a good support system!
  • Don't apologize, we all started out newbies. It is the wealth of knowledge from others that we become advocates for our own bodies. My doctor likes when I ask questions. Don't be afraid to ask why.

  • I take Provera to bring on a period during an anovulatory cycle, but my doctor recommends I take a pregnancy test before I start each time.

I need to do a lot more than "plan" to become pregnant, so I'm good.
