I have been posting about this so sorry for the repeats, but just needed to vent my anxiety...
If you didn't see my posts yesterday, DH had SA#1 in April and his numbers were 187M count, 2.5m/L, 60% motility and 42% morphology (WHO). Totally normal. SA#2 with Kruger was 74M count, 1.8m/L (low), 52% motility, 30% morph (WHO) and 4% Kruger.
I'm stressing about the morph...my RE said that 4% morph is the normal cut-off b/c their andrologists are really strict, and then he just breezed over it and didn't say anyomore and acted like it was a non-issue. No one even called me when the results came in, I had to ask for them so I guess they thought they weren't a big deal.
BUT, when I Dr. Googled (bad idea!!!) I read that if you have morph less than 4% or 30% WHO, it's difficult for a sperm to fertilize without ICSI!!! My Dr. didn't even push IUI b/c of MFI, let alone IVF, so now I am ssooo confused! I hear in one place that 4% is normal and in another that 4% you need IVF w/ ISCI???
I know morph is incredibly lab specific, and some REs expect to see over 14% normal on Kruger and some 4-5%...but I can't talk to my RE till Mon. and am really worried that now we are dealing with MFI too...
Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: Stressing (MFI)...
honestly hon, try not to stress! i think one reason that there are so many different cut-offs and definitions of "normal" is because the role of morphology is still a bit of a mystery! i hear plenty of stories of women getting pregnant the "old fashioned way" with husbands that have 0-1% morph. it isn't the end of the world, i promise! you can still get pregnant with those numbers! and remember, his counts are SO HIGH that his total count of normal sperm is still great.
hang in there...
Because we're fancy like that.
Hi Patchen - I have read your posts, but don't know all too much about morph. What I do know is that numbers change from SA to SA. My DH has had about 4 or so and each one has been different. We are also dealing with MFI but with count and motility, although we were told morph wasn't too good either (I don't recall the numbers). We went straight to IVF with ICSI.
Is your DH seeing a urologist? If not, he probably should be. If your RE is ordering the tests, he should also recommend a urologist for you DH. It could be something simple...who knows.
Try not to stress too much. Hang in there!
he probably just glossed over it because the count is so high that it isn't a problem.
you have millions and millions of good sperm.
good luck!!

Thanks ladies...
Mamabear - I saw my RE's fill-in on Monday (who is actually the head of the practice) but not only did he not mention a urologist, he acted like DH's SA was no big deal.
I will see my regular RE on Mon. and will ask about a urologist then.
It just seems so subjective with morph - you have some guy literally looking at the sperm and deciding which ones are normal and aren't - and andrologists can have such different opinions.

Maybe that's why he didn't think it was a big deal. Plus, as previous poster mentioned, his other counts were good. I would talk to your RE on Monday and ask if you are concerned.
