Just wondering how long the procedure normally lasts? I had to schedule with an outside radiology company to get the date/time I needed - so my RE won't be there. Does that mean I won't get my results today?
I'm just anxious to get this over with. Some of you said it was a breeze and others seemed quite unhappy with the whole ordeal. I just hope I fall on the breezy side of the fence. I think I may help myself to one of DH's Percocets to soothe my nerves for before and during. Anxiety has always been my kryptonite.
What's the bright side? I get to leave work at noon today, this damn HSG business will be over with, and I'm almost done my break cycle! If all goes well, I should be on Provera by next weekend.
I really just want to get back in the game. I'm sure you can all relate. ![]()
Re: nervous about HSG this afternoon
mine fell on the side of most terrible medical procedures I have ever had (and with 3 surgeries, and 2 invasive biopsies under my belt, I've had some doozies).
I hope yours is a breeze.
Good luck.
"Smudge's Story - How to Grow a Dandelion" will return soon!
The Dandelion Archive
"If dandelions were hard to grow, they would be most welcome on any lawn."
Mine was not bad at all - and I even had a partially blocked tube. From arrival to departure was about 1 hour for me. I had to wait on my RE for a bit though.
You should be able to see what is going on via a monitor in the room. But, if your RE isn't doing the test, you will most likely have to schedule a sit down with them to get the "official" results. The radiologist doing the test may be able to give you some insight though.
Good luck!!!!!
IVF#1 gave us a BFP on 8/24/09, DD born May 2010
Surprise, natural BFP July 2012 ended in miscarriage 9/4/12 at 10w4d
FET#1 January 2013
Try to relax. Mine was a breeze!
If you want to take a percocet to relax you, it will be fine.
Where are you getting it done? I got mine done at JH and it only took 10 minutes from entering the room until I left. Try not to psych yourself out.
good luck!
I am having my done at American Radiology. I have to drive out to Howard County (ugh!)... they're on Columbia 100 Parkway. I was just glad to get it scheduled. That was a whole other fiasco - so I'll suck it up and make the trip out there.
Thanks to everyone for your input! Even if something sucks, I'd at least like to go in mentally prepared.
Now, I am.
I just had mine on Monday, it was unpleasant but quick. I took 4 Advil prior but I don't think it really did anything. The whole procedure was about 10-15 minutes tops.
Take a pad or pantyliner with you!!!!
Mine was quite uncomfortable. I'd say the most painful part was when the dye was being injected, it caused that feeling of "pressure". The entire procedure was 30min with setup approx an hour.
Good Luck!
the best word to describe it is. . .well it just sucks. it's not terribly painful, but it's not exactly something i want to do again. it was definitely worse than having an IUI but overall, very similar. there was only one point where i had *pain* and it was like i had a horrible contraction. but besides that it was just extreeemly bad cramps. the good news is, it's all over in about 20 minutes or less from start to finish!!!
also - even if you're doctor's not there to give you the results you can see if your tubes are blocked, you'll be able to see the screen and if you see the dye carry through your tubes then you're probably clear. but besides that, you'll have to wait for the doc's report
good luck today!! please don't get too worked up. i'm also a very anxious person, and it was not at all as bad as i anticipated!

The upside: It's over in five minutes and it gives you a ton of info on your tubes. Plus it somewhat enhances fertility for that cycle...
The downside: Take the percocet. I took a vicodin and I was wailing during the procedure. I hadn't cried like that since my e/p. It hurt like he!! but I knew it was worth it.
DX: High FSH/DOR
It took 44 cycles, just over 3 years, 6 failed IUI's in MI, and 1 round of IVF at CCRM to get our BFP!
