Sorry this has taken so long....Marshall arrived on 8/16 at 1:52 pm and weighed 9 pounds, 9 ounces and is 22 inches long (I guess those sizing ultrasounds can sometimes get it right!)
BeckO, if you are reading while in labor you might want to come back later.
I went in to labor Saturday night around 9 or 10pm. I wasn't sure it was the "real" thing, and I wanted to labor at home for a while to try to advance a little (I had no progress at my appointment that week). Dh finally made me go to the hospital at 2am (probably because I woke him up at 1am because I didn't want to be miserable alone). When the nurse checked me I was a whopping 1cm. We walked the halls for a while, stopping in triage periodically so I could puke, and I continued to make progress, so they checked us in. I have to say, labor was so much more painful than I imagined. Props to you natural mamas! My doc doesn't like to do an epi until you are at 4cm, which happened around 5 am and I got the epi at 6am. Unfortunately it was only temporary relief for me. I was very sensitive to positioning, and after my doc broke my water and the pitocin kicked in, the epi did not keep up. I got two more doses but it never really got rid of the pain, just took the edge off. I progressed to six cm but stalled out there. My doc came in and said I could have a c-section (I was already scheduled for one in a few days) or do an internal monitor to see how strong the contractions were. I decided to get the monitor and the contractions were not strong enough so they uped my pitocin to the max and we gave it an hour. The epi wasn't strong enough and I started puking again and got the shakes. When my doc came in at 1pm I told her I'd had enough and to do the c-section.
They got me prepped for the operating room and took me in, where I puked again. I was shivering so hard that I asked dh and the doc to hold my arms down during the procedure. When they pulled him out everyone exclaimed over how big he was and my doc told me that he never would have come out on his own. I got to see him briefly and dh went back with him to our room, and my parents got to see him (they normally don't allow this until we've been with him for 2 hours). We got to cuddle with him and do the first breastfeeding without interruption, which was great.
That afternoon I had vaginal bleeding but not knowing what to expect, I didn't realize it was too much. We had a ton of family around and I was changing the pads a lot so the day nurse did not pick up on it. When the night nurse came on she went to check me and realized immediately that there was a problem. She brought in another nurse and they immediately took blood and called the doctor. I had clots that were causing me to bleed too much. They gave me shots and tried to work the clots out, which was more painful than the labor and c-section combined. I had to have 3 bags of blood just to get my numbers of up marginally. I also got a lovely rash on 3/4s of my back from an allergic reaction to the epidural tape and had a bad reaction to the whooping cough vaccine.
So, overall not a really great birth experience, but we have our little boy and I'm just crazy about him. I could lay with him and look at his squishy face all day long.
Re: Birth story and PIP
He is a CUTIE! Congrats on the healthy baby boy! Sounds like your L&D was rougher than you anticipated, but you are a total soldier for getting through it all so well.
Congrats again!!
OMG, what a story! So glad he's here! He's just adorable.
I know what you mean about the shakes - I had them pretty bad too during/before/after my C/S and it sucked. I can't imagine all the complications you had though - poor thing. I'm so glad that all of that is behind you.
Oh wow! So glad that you're ok and that nurse was smart to check on you and figured out that something was wrong.
Congratulations on your beautiful baby boy!! I'm so happy for you and your DH. I love his name!
Can't wait to meet him and see you and your DH!

what a cutie! Sorry momma, that sounds like the birth from hell!
Hope you're feeling better!
I got it at the Co-op, upstairs in the baby section. We also bought a really cute white one with an orange longhorn on the front at Special Addition, but he was waaay to big for it.
well that's quite a story! Cuddling with the little guys sure makes up for it all though.
he's a cutie!

Awww, I love that squishy face too! Adorable! Thanks for the birth story -- sorry it was so much hard work, and thank goodness they realized the bleeding problem! (seriously, what 1st time mom knows what type of bleeding is normal??)
Congrats again!
