Eco-Friendly Family

I need dishwasher detergent.

We used (and liked) Ecover tabs, but when we were almost out and I was at Whole Foods (there isn't one here, so I can only go when I visit family), all they had was powder.  The powder sucks balls.  We HATE it.  It doesn't get anything clean- even on the pots and pans setting.  There is nasty white film on dishes and pieces of who knows what stuck on the inside of my cups.  (Even when I make sure there is vinegar in the Jet Dry well)  I cannot deal anymore.  Is Seventh Generation any better or am I going to have to sacrifice some EFness for something that cleans my dishes?  The last load was so bad, that I don't feel comfortable eating from ANY of it... (luckily it was the end of the box), but now it needs to be rewashed.

Re: I need dishwasher detergent.

  • I use the Method dishwashing tablets and they have worked great for me so far.
  • Loading the player...
  • seventh gen didn't work at all for me...i like trader joe's powder.
  • we love ecover too and when i can't get those, i like method a lot.  i tried 7th gen powder and had that same film issue.
  • Sounds like its Method for me... (There's no trader Joe's here)  Thanks ladies!  Hopefully Target has it.  All my dishes are totally backed up right now... its making my kitchen stink, actually.

  • Target is where I get all my Method products. The grocery stores around here are just starting to get it in and the choices suck.
  • how does the cost of method dishwasher stuff compare to conventional products - anyone know?  i know i saw ecover tabs and it was like twice the price for half the product and we just haven't been able to swing that despite the rave reviews i've heard from folks on here..  :-(

  • we use the kirkland EF powder from costco.  it seems to work well.
  • Method isn't the top choice around here, because its not as EF as the others, but the prices are better.  Still more than say- softsoap or Palmolive... but much easier to stomach.

  • I tried the Eco Palmolive and really like it. I actually got Ecover at the Health Foods store. They had the tabs, but those are always a lot more expensive, so I grabbed the bottle. Turns out it was only for hand washing....duh! So I was at Target trying to decide what to get. The cheapest was Method and this Palmolive Eco. Granted, I knew nothing else, but it LOOKED like it's EF, and it was the same price as Method except you got almost twice as much in ounces. So I grabbed it. Does a perfect job. Now, just to look into how EF it really is....
