2nd Trimester

Maternity Jeans and Face Wash

This is random, I know. But I have heard not to use certain face washes while pregnant, althought I didn't change my skin care routine at all with my first child. This second baby has me breaking out like a teenager. What do you use, that is effective and safe?

Also, the time has come where I need to get maternity jeans. I don't want to spend a fortune, what are some brands/kinds you wear and like?

Thanks in advance ladies!

Re: Maternity Jeans and Face Wash

  • Face wash:

At night, I rotate between Kiss My Face citrus cleanser, Garnier makeup removing wipes, and Basis Cleaner Clean face wash. My doc said no beta-hydroxy acids (so no salacylic acid). So don't use anything for acne (ie, neutrogena acne wash).

In the AM, I use St. Ives original apricot scrub and cetaphil.

    Jeans:

I plan to buy GAP maternity jeans because I have a 40% off coupon. But I haven't tried them yet so I can't help there. I wanted to buy a pair of Lucky Brand maternity jeans, because I love Lucky, but I can not bring myself to pay $150 for jeans I will wear for only 4 months.

  • Face Wash - My doctor said anything over the counter and topical is fine.  He also said that with my raging hormones, don't expect it to completely clear me up.  I was really hoping that my face would clear up by the secont trimester...but not so much.  The only good thing is that my major breakout spot is my forehead...and most of that is covered by my bangs.  LOL

  • I haven't had any serious skin issues since I was about 6 weeks along, so I'm still using either shea butter or hand made soaps on my face.  Before when I did have breakouts, I would use Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne wash.  It does have salicylic acid in it though.

As for jeans, I'm petite, and Motherhood is the only chain in my area that carries petite sizes in the store.  They run from $25 - $45.  I really like the "secret fit belly,"  they don't slide down to my hips the way the pants with the short bands do.

  • I use face wash w/salycic (sp?) acid in it, which my dr. said was fine to use.

Motherhood jeans actually fit me pretty well and they are inexpensive.  I like the Gap jeans, but I'm not willing to spend $70 for a pair!

  • facewash: I just use regular soap now, I've heard to stay away from salycylic acid (not sure if I spelled that right)

jeans: I have tried a couple and LOVE Gap's long and lean full panel maternity jeans. They were a little pricier than some options (around 60, I think) but they are great. I am neither long nor lean and still love them!

  • I've been using my same face wash, but it's a gentle Clinique kind.

As far as jeans, so far the only pair I have is from Old Navy.  It's great because they have talls and they still look like normal jeans you might wear pre-preg.  My DH loved that he could see my butt again! (I had been wearing his jeans on and off so it was hidden.)  The Old Navy jeans are mid/under belly though (I'm not sure exactly which this style is called) so you may not like them if you prefer secret fit belly.  Mine isn't too big yet so the regular elastic waist style still works.

I use Cetaphil face wash. Ditto the pp about staying away from acne washes.

Jeans are going to be different for everyone, just like regular jeans. I am petite with skinny hips and thighs, so I like Old Navy because they're the only ones I have found that are slim enough for me. I find a lot of maternity jeans are extra generous in the hip/thigh and I am just not putting on weight there (yet? who knows).

  • I still use the same face wash...Aveeno

I bought 2 pair of jeans at motherhood maternity last week.  They fit well in the store and were a great buy...2 for $70, I usually spend at least $120 a pair but refuse to pay that for maternity.

I've worn one pair and after about an hour they stretched and began to fall down, the secret fit belly doesn't stay up so I have to fold it.  After a few hours the crotch is down mid thigh.  I have to continually pull them up!  Maybe I'm not bit enough for them yet, hopefully I will grow into them, I love jeans and motherhood maternity was the only store I could find where I could try them on first.  Everything else is online only.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks for this post!!!  Lately, I've been breaking out BAD from mid-torso on up.  Ugh!  I didn't have this bad of acne when I WAS a teenager!  I had been using regular soap, but is obviously not working well.

I do love the maternity jeans from Motherhood.  I bought a pair of the jeans and the khakis in the secret panel.  I had gotten a pair of shorts from Target this summer and didn't care for the waist band.  It always feels like they're sliding off.

  • I've been rotating between the Clean N Clear face washes that do not contain medication and Cetaphil.  I still have breakouts though :(

As for jeans- I recently bought 2 pairs of ReRock Jeans from A Pea in the Pod.  They are the only jeans that have been long enough for me to wear.  Most places don't carry longs in maternity jeans and these come in a 33" in-seam so they fit perfect.  They are a little pricey- $118 for one pair and $89 for the other but they are so comfortable and and I get a ton of compliments so they are totally worth it to me.

  • Thanks for all the feedback. I just ordered tea tree cleanser and a few other products from the body shop. Hopefully that will start to help with my skin, at least to control the excess oil. I just didn't feel like my old cleanser was working too well and I was using a glycolic peel once a week which I totally stopped.

I snagged maternity capri's on clearance by Motherhood for $8 and they are great. Also just ordered a pair of jeans from Old Navy for $24.99 online which isn't too bad. I still need to get a few more pairs but I will keep my eyes open for good deals!

Why can't we just wear sweats everyday :  )

  • i use aveeno face wash and the only pair of mat. jeans i have so far are from motherhood, but i will be buying a pair from Gap.

  • Much to my surprise, I found jeans I liked at Kohls--they're regularly around $50 but they were on sale last weekend and I paid around $30.  I too am fighting the strong urge to buy my Luckys...
  • There was just a post about maternity jeans yesterday and the two brands that I saw get more than one positive comment were Duo at JCPenney that are evidently like $20 pair and Gap.

  • I use Cetaphil for my face. I broke out super bad in 1st tri, and this was the only thing that worked. As for jeans, I can't help you - it's too hot here!

  • I use St. Ives Apricot Scrub on my face.

For jeans, I love Gap long & lean full panel.  They are on sale online right now for $29.99.

I got the ReRocks' too!  Mine were on sale for $89 and I doubt I'll buy another pair. Mine are the skinny jeans since I'll be most pregnant in winter and will be wearing my Ugg boots over them or cute flats.  I figure if I have small hips, legs and butt, I may as well flaunt them while the rest of me is huge!
