Who else didn't get anything from their registry?

I had my shower last week and didn't get one thing off the registry.  No complaints here - I got cash stuffed envelopes handed to me instead.  I'm finding it difficult not to spend the money on immediate things like bills so I put it in my savings account until I go baby shopping again.

In fear of being tacky, maybe I just didn't push the registry enough on people?   Or maybe people just figured in this economy, cash would be better appreciated?

Re: Who else didn't get anything from their registry?

  • Lucky you at least you got cash. I have had a few things bought off my registry, but other than my mom, the rest of my family has told me they don't care what I want or need, they are buying what they want. Sigh, I hate to be rude but I really hope they put gift recipts in the gifts because I do not need 25 newborn sleepers ( or whatever size) thanks to 2nd hand shopping I have scored some really nice stuff. Good luck to you and have fun shopping for LO!

  • not one thing? I dont know why people dont use the registries. They are there to help both the giver and reciever..........At least you got some money so you can go get the items yourself. I guess i'm super lucky, both my family and my inlaw family always use registries, after all, that is what they are there for!
  • I was really lucky - my family bought almost everything from my registry. I almost wish there were a few more surprises in there!  At least you got cash instead of lots of extra stuff you dont need.  Now you can just get the stuff you really do need and forget all the registry extras.

  • llggx2 - I had a good friend tell me that she didn't get me the tub off my registry because she didn't like the reviews.  She got me the one she wanted instead but didn't include a  gift receipt lol.
  • We got a few things from the registry - PNP, car seat, monitor, important basics.  I had way more fun opening gifts that guests chose themselves.  The outfits we received were so perfect!  It was interesting to see things my friends picked out for her that are definitely a reflection of my personality.  There was definitely a rocker chick theme unfolding!  We also got several items that clearly were very sentimental and had a lot of thought and meaning behind them.
  • Non-registry shopping annoys me so bad. I'm not having a 2nd shower, but with my first, I got SO many things that were just wasted b/c people bought something that didn't work.?

Layla was 5 lbs, 11 oz born in July.. She was in NB for FOREVER.. people bought 0-3 month summer stuff and a few people bought clothes in 3-6 months. ?It was just wasted b/c it's not like she could wear it the following summer.

I feel like people just wasted their money at my shower (or some people, anyways). ?Of course everyone ripped the tags off and didn't include a gift receipt, so there wasn't much I could do with it. ?

This same thing happened to me! I actually said to my stepmom, why did I bother spending 3 hours at BRU?

I had exactly 2 people buy off my registry, everyone else just bought whatever soft blankets they liked. I was lucky that a lot of people gave gift receipts because now I have a nice little stockpile of Target gift cards. This is why I always buy off people's registries!

I guess this is what I missed out on.

  • I got three things off my registry...I was grateful for all the stuff we got even t hough most of it was bought at target or burlington coat factory or baby gap (places I was not registered at) however, I was able to go & exchange the multiples of clothes, booties & caps for stuff that WAS needed - bathing stuff, diapers, wipes. In the end it all works out! =)
  • At my first shower which was a couple weeks ago. People bought alot of stuff that wasn't on our registry?that?we didn't need or will really use and took the tags off so we have no way of knowing where it came from to return it. I'm hoping at my family shower in September I get?gift cards?or?actual?items we registered for.?
  • I was surprised to get quite a few things off my registry from my first shower, but I'm expecting a lot of clothes from the shower this Saturday from DH's aunt.  I'm a little nervous because I really appreciate the shower, but we have 37 0-3 short sleeved onesies for a September baby. I've tried hinting when asked that we really need warm clothes.

  • I had about 30 people at my shower and got like five things off my registry. I appreciated the gifts, but I was disappointed because we really need the stuff we put on there and not 50 one piece outfits. I only registered at BRU and I know they are a little pricey but I put a wide range of price options on there and I wouldn't have mind if they bought something off of there from another store. I just wish people would use them, since we take the time to waddle (lol) around the store to do them.
  • dude, that's so weird about cash.  I don't think I've ever heard of that before in my life.

I know a few people are PISSED that I'm only registered at BRU, not Target as well.  So they refuse to shop off my BRU registry.

  • I only got a few things that weren't on my registry, but luckily most of them were useful.  I did get a little annoyed with my SIL, though, because she gave me a bunch of stuff that I will never use (baby powder, baby lotion) and a diaper bag that I had not registered for (I had already picked one out at another store, just hadn't bought it yet) and then proceeded to loudly announce at my shower that there were no "fun" things to purchase on my registry and that I don't know how to make a registry, so she was forced to purchase items that I hadn't registered for.
