Success after IF

How do you tell the difference between head and butt?

This is a silly question I know, and a funny post title, too, but it's either the baby's head or butt that is poking out of my left side right now, and I wish I knew which part I'm feeling! I think it's a butt ... but I'm not sure. Is there any way to tell?

I have a friend whose sister is a doctor and gave herself ultrasounds every week when she was pregnant. I knew I went into the wrong profession!

After 7 failed IUIs, IVF w/ ICSI worked!!

I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.

And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!

  • pretty soon it'll start to make sense how the feet kick, and how the head is... it was more process of elimination for me... lol!

  • I had the hardest time with that when I was pregnant, but the butt is usually a bit pointier than the head is.  That's all I got, sorry.

  • I can't help, I have u/s twice a week, but I would look for little legs first.

  • If you think about the way they usually lay, their feet are going to be tucked up close to the butt.  If you feel around to the sides of what you are questioning, you might be able to distinguish little feet or legs.

It's fun trying to guess what stuff is though too!

  • Thanks for humoring me, ladies! This is so much fun. Smile

From what you're saying, I think it's his head, because I'm feeling kicks diagonally from the lump, way down low.

    I wish I had a belly window!

  • You'd be surprised what a punch those little hands and arms can give!  I was scared that my baby was breech because I had a lot of lower thumps that I thought for sure were kicks.  Turned out she was butt up after about 23 or 24 weeks.

  • Ditto Psyched, I have an anterior placenta, so I only ever feel baby's punching, no kicks. The punches can be pretty hard, though! Especially when she gets an organ...your doctor/midwife should be able to tell you your baby's position pretty soon, I found out for sure at my 30 week appt.
