Reources to Help Find New ChildCare Center

Hello All!

I was laid off in January of this year and have been home with my son since.  I believe I will be receiving an offer from an organization shortly, so I will need to find a new daycare establishment for my son.  I would go back to who we were using before, but that is not an option as my potential new job would be in the opposite direction.

I am trying to do some due diligence and am trying to research daycare centers around the new location, however, I am not familiar with the area at all and don't know how to go about searching for a qualified center.  I did a google search and some results came up, but a lot of them had very bad reviews and I am hesitant to even call there.

Can anyone here give me any search strategies or resources on how to find childcare centers when you aren't familiar with the territory?   If I am offered the job I would ask my employer and ask what daycares other parents who work there use in the area, but that will have to wait.

 Thanks!

  • I used my state's on-line database of registered daycare centers and then visited ones that were in the location I wanted. I also was able to look up past violations or audits performed at each center through my state's site.

I just googled and your state (PA) has an awesome website. click here and search by program seems to be a good start.

Married June '03. DS born Jan '09. DD born Feb '12. No, we didn't choose to be childless for the first 6 years, only the first 3.

That's what I did. Needless to say I LOVE my daycare.
