Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

please share your dc's drinnk schedule!

We had our one year appointment today and I saw all the other 1 year olds drinking juice this morning. I wasn;t quite sure juice was suggested so much.

ds is starting whole milk now but is still on around 3 bottles a day. we're weaning to milk first from the bottle and he's not exactly great with the sippy yet.

anyway, can you tell me what a normal day looks like for your toddler as far as drinks go? also include bottle or sippy.

Thanks!

Re: please share your dc's drinnk schedule!

  • Morning - Sippy cup of water

Morning snack and sippy cup of milk

Lunch - sippy cup of water or milk

Afternoon snack - sippy of water

    dinner - milk sippy

    before bed - milk sippy

We don't do much juice. Only as a very special treat.

  • C only takes water for now.  I have given her juice twice when I felt that her poop was a little solid.  She takes a 7 oz bottle at 7:15, a 4 oz sippy cup of formula (she refuses the bottle for the sitter) at 10:00 and then she gets another bottle at 7:30PM which is 8 oz.  But she has a sippy cup of water all day long at the sitter and at home and takes it as she wants.  I tend to 'ask' her to drink it more at home than I think her sitter does but I know she is getting plenty of water.

FWIW, the two times I have given her juice she kinda just tossed it aside.  I think she prefers water over juice.

  • And I just have to say YAY for your little dude for being so big!!!  So different than a year ago! Congrats!

Thanks!!! seriously come a long way! he is 23lbs 10 oz and 31 inches!

BIG boy and I LOVE it!

  • We do bottle or sippy of milk (we're transitioning between the two as well) in the morning with breakfast.

    Sippy of milk at lunch

    Sippy of milk late afternoon/dinner

    Sippy/Bottle of Milk before bed.

She drinks water from a sippy throughout the day.

ETA: We haven't given her much juice...I think she's had it watered down maybe twice?

  • He starts the morning with a mimosa or a bloody mary.  At noon he has his first glas of wine....

    JK :P

    Wake up - milk

    water throughout the day

milk before afternoon nap (or after nap at daycare)

    more water

    milk before bed.

     We don't do juice.

  • Morning - Apple Juice

When she is finsihed I just keep filling it back up with water.

She hates milk from a sippy - so she gets a big bottle at night

  • it's basically on demand. i don't schedule when i'm thirsty, you know?

she gets either a bottle or sippy in the morning and a bottle at night, and then i refill her cup with water/milk in between.

she doesn't have much juice. rarely, and even then it's diluted.

  • DC drinks only from a sippy, we gave up bottles after he turned a year.

I offer him a sippy of milk with all meals and before we go up for bed.  Otherwise he has a water sippy available all day.  He only drinks about 6 oz. a day so he eats a ton of dairy all day to make up for it.  He drinks probably 10 oz. of water and we don't offer juice.  I am too cheap to but juice.

  • Morning - Usually about 4oz. of milk in a sippy (They are not big on drinking fluids at all, so 4oz. is the max I can get in them)

All day long - I have sippys with water in them they drink when they feel like it.

Morning Snack - 6oz. of juice water (Motts for Tots) in a sippy

Lunch - They stopped drinking at lunch, they refuse to take any milk, so I have give them yogart with their lunch for calcium and it also counts towards there fluid intake (per their pedi.)

Afternoon Snack - 6 oz. of juice water in a sippy

Dinner (They will not drink with dinner - so to get more calcium in them I give them each a piece of snack size cheese)

About 45 min. before bed they take 8oz. of milk in a sippy cup

My girls are below the recommended daily amount of fluids they should have but they do give me plenty of wet diapers throughout the day, so my pedi. said it is not a problem. They do end up drinking about half the water I put in their sippy in the morning throughout the day, so they are getting a couple of ounces there. I do give juice water because I had to do this when they were transitioning to table foods at 11 months due to major constipation and the doc told me to and we have stuck with it because they will drink all of the juice water. But I limit it to only with snack twice a day. Doing the juice water they are not getting over the recommended max. amount of 6 oz. of juice per day (if you give juice).

Since I have been giving them this I have had no issues with constipation, so since it works for me I am sticking with it.
