2nd Trimester

If you're keeping baby in your room at first, where will he/she sleep?

I initially thought we'd use a bassinet, but now I'm not sure if we should get something else.  I thought the vibration feature would be nice but now I'm reading it doesn't work that well.

What will you use?  I want something to keep right next to the bed, to make night-feedings easy.  Plus I'll want to keep an eye on him :)

Re: If you're keeping baby in your room at first, where will he/she sleep?

  • We'll be using an actual bassinet, not a pack and play.  At first, I wanted a pack and play (and may still get one for the play pen part) but then we went and felt the mattresses and they were horrible - they felt like cardboard!  Also, they seemed very flimsy.

  • I've heard great things about the arms-reach mini co-sleeper. i really want to get one, but not sure if it's worth the $$ since LO will be in it for such a short amt of time. If not that, then definitely a bassinet.
  • We use the bassinet "shelf" of a pack-n-play in our room.  It worked great with each of the girls.  It even has a changing table on one side.  I set up my room so I can get from bed to the pnp/changing table to the glider and back in less than 5 steps.  It makes a difference in the middle of the night.  We also use the pnp when we're traveling even as they get older.  DD#2 will probably sleep in one this weekend, though we may let her share the bed with DD#1.  Either way, it's what we use when we travel.
  • bassinet for sure

  • Our friends gave us their bassinet, which is very nice and has a mobile attached to it. If they didn't give us that we were thinking of getting the co-sleeper mini.

  • we got lucky with this. My cousin has a bassinet she's going to let us borrow. Our little boy will be the 4th kid to use it, my cousin got it from her aunt and my cousin's sister-in-law used it too. We figure why spend the money on something I've been told you wont use very long.
  • We are having twins so it's a little different but we plan to have them sleep together in our room at first.  We got an Arms Reach Co-sleeper.  The have mini ones for one baby and original ones for two babies.  It's great.  It connects to your bed so they are right there beside you, but not IN your bed.  That way, if they just need their paci's put back in etc. you don't have to get out of bed!!
  • We will be getting a basinette from a friend... bonus it is free... I just want something close by so I can nurse easily... We looked at the cosleeper but I was offered a free basinette...

  • We're planning on using the bassinet feature of a PNP from the beginning.
  • We'll be using the bassinet feature (not the newborn napper) of our PNP.

  • My dad is making us a cradle that he'll use for the first few months. I would use a bassinet if my dad hadn't offered. They seem much less expensive than buying a cradle.

  • we were given a basinet that we plan to use
  • my grandfather is refinishing/rebuilding the cradle they used with me, so we plan on using that. It got minimal use when i was little and he is replacing all the hardware and refinishing it, and it looks amazing! so we're planning on using that right next to our bed
  • We used the basinet feature of our PNP with DD, but our room is quite small this time (moved in November) so we're probably going to get a bassinet to save space.
  • I"m not even buying a pack-n-play, so not that.

We'll either be rigging a crib to function like a co-sleeper or we'll put our mattress on the floor with the crib mattress next to it.

  • The baby and I will bedshare for the first couple of weeks, and then we use the PNP until the baby outgrows it (my first two were about six months old).
  • It's the Arms Reach Mini for us.  We want to co-sleep for awhile, but we don't like the concept of bedsharing for safety reasons.
  • In his/her crib beside our bed

I loved my co-sleeper.  It was so cozy having her right next to me.  My daughter slept in it for five months.
  • were going to put the baby in  bed with us. my mom did it with all 4 of us and its really something i want to do until the  baby get older, or i'm done breastfeeding, whichever is last.
  • We will use the bassinet portion of our pnp as we did for our other kids.

  • This baby will more than likely sleep in bed with us, just like dd did. We all slept great that way.
  • We registered for a pack n play that she'll sleep in.

  • Probably bedshare like DS did (and is).
  • We'll possibly use a co-sleeper, but will probably end up sidecarring instead:  LINK HERE
  • We are using a bassinet in our room.  My sister uses one now for her DD, and it is so nice for her.

  • im using a bassinet and im going to have it near me cuz my coworker told me that when her baby would start to cry all she would have to do is reach over and rock it back and forth until he fell back asleep and she didnt need to get up or open her eyes... sounds good to me! :) just my luck my baby will wake up every hour!

  • I found a great cradle online that we will be getting for our room. I didn't want to buy something that would be used for such a short period of time, but I plan on using it for toy and blanket storage, and then for another baby!

We'll have the crib in the nursery for later, and the PnP downstairs.

  • We will be using a cradle that was given to us by a friend. It is much roomier than basinettes seem to be!
  • We have a really tiny bedroom, so we're using a Moses basket on a stand. ?They have quite a few at Buy Buy Baby and one or two at BRU. ?They are more affordable and even smaller than bassinets.
