What to expect from first RE appt?

Hi ladies.  I'm almost 16 cycles (will start #16 in a few days) into TTC.  I just made the call to make my first appointment with an RE.  They will make the appointment once they get the paperwork for all of the tests I've had done through my OBGYN.  So far, I've had cd3 bloodwork done several times, cd 21 bloodwork, an HSG, and my DH had a SA.  All normal according to my DR.  I'm currently on my 2nd clomid cycle (50mg).  I refused another cycle with my DR without monitoring, so I was referred to the RE.

My question is, should I expect any action for this upcoming cycle?  How quickly did your treatments begin after your 1st appointment?  Of course, I'm hoping we can get right to it, but I want to be realistic.

Thanks so much, and good luck to all of you!

Re: What to expect from first RE appt?

  • I don't have much information to offer because I was sent to the RE even before they started the bw (missed period for 9 mos). My GP refused to give me medicine to control AF or O and insisted I see the RE first. At our first appt. the RE gave me a vaginal ultrasound and dx me with PCOS. I also got my bw done and the second appt he started me on Met and Provera. Good luck!!!

  • Thanks for your input MrsKim!!
  • I was lucky enough to be squeezed into an appt with my RE on CD4.  they did all their screening (b/w and all, even though I had it done through GYN) and started me on clomid that same day! hopefully you will have that same luck!

     throwing baby dust your way!

  • I guess it depends on if the RE wants to repeat any of the testing or do more testing. If the RE doesn't want to do any additional testing, you get there by CD2, and you're sure you will do another Clomid round you might be able to start this next cycle. Best of luck!

  • I went to my first RE appointment June 09 because I was tired of being on clomid and not being monitored. They asked that my DH come with me so they could get information from him too. I had to fill out additional paperwork (I think it was like family history). They took me into a room and they asked me about what meds I took with OB, even though they had it, they wanted to make sure, they asked me about my cycles (which I wrote out which months that I had AF), etc.

Once she talked with us she did some bloodwork on me and then took me for a interntal ultrasound to verify what she thought my problem was (PCOS) and that told her what she needed.

After the ultrasound I came back into the room and we went with our gameplan. She put me on Metformin and then told me when my AF showed up to call and make an appointment for Day 16 to check ovulation. I had to go back on Day 18 because I was not ready and then 2 days later I had IUI #1. I saw her on June 28 and had my first IUI July 25 and just had my second IUI today.

If you can and have records it might be good to write down the dates of your AF. This really helped her in coming up with what I have.

    Hope that helps you.
