Cervix length?

Does anyone know their cervix length?  I was having some cramping last week and so the OB checked it and said it was 3.5.  She seemed happy with that and said that it was good, but I keep reading other people who are at 5 or over 5.  I am curious where you are "supopsed' to be and when does it get dangerous?  TIA!

  • I'm curious to see replies because I've been wondering the same thing!

  • I was never at 5. Even around 16 wks I wasn't. My doctor was concerned if it got under 3.0 earlier on in the pregnancy, but his "real" number was 2.5. It also does change from week to week. One week I would be 3.9 and then down to 3.1 and then back up. It depends on how the babies are positioned, how much standing you are doing, ect.

    HTH?

  • Yeah, I guess I should have asked the OB for clarification, but I always seem to think of these things after I leave!
  • I was 4.5 yesterday.  My OB said they like to see it above 3 (so I'd be happy with 3.5).  Your OB will let you know when to worry, try not to freak yourself out.
  • At my appointment yesterday, I was 4.something. My doctor claims that this measurement is longer than average, so I'm guessing you're fine. I really have NO idea what you're "supposed" to be.
  • I was 2.1 with pressure around 2 and half weeks ago, but I haven't been checked since 33 weeks 3 days so I have no idea what I am now...I know I was lower than 3 with pressure around 26 weeks and that's why I had to stop working.

  • Good question! I was 3.4 today and they were very happy with that. I thought she said they like to see at least 2.5, but my DH swears she said 2.0.
  • mine was 6.3 last thursday...doc said avg is between 4-5, and said if its under 3 is when you are on bedrest, etc.
  • Mine was 4.5 around 20 weeks, but down to 3.7 last week. He checks it when I complain that my pressure gets worse. He was very pleased with my measurements.
  • My doctor said anything between 4-3.5 is normal.  Mine was 3.8 at 16 weeks.  She said she doesn't worry too much until it reaches less than 3.

  • My MFM wanted me above 2.5. I was usually 3.7/3.5 until I started funneling and dropped to 1 during funneling.

I was put on procardia to stop contractions and then brethine.

  • Mine was 5.7 cm today at my growth ultrasound.  I was shocked, didn't know they could be that long.
