How much do you pay for a cleaner?

Ok I am seriously wishing for a cleaner and want to know how much everyone else is paying?

So what I need to know is:

1) How much is your cleaner?

2) How big is your place? ie 3 br, 2 bath etc...carpet vs hardwood floors. Is there a different charge for the different type of flooring etc?

3) What does your house cleaner do ie vacuum, dust, stove top, oven, mop, laundry etc??

4) How often do they come in?

5) How much pre-cleaning do you do before they arrive?

I live in a northern suburb of Chicago and have a 3 bedroom, 2 bath split level house. I'm just wondering how much It would cost to find someone to come in once or twice a month? I posted on the chicago board but have received no responses.

Thanks!

Re: How much do you pay for a cleaner?

  • In California: 2br/2ba, 1100 sq ft, mostly carpeted - $130 every 2 weeks

In Texas: 4br + study and media room/3.5 ba, 3400 sq ft, carpeted upstairs/mostly hardwood downstairs - $100 every 2 weeks

Both do the basics, vacuuming, dusting, kitchen cleaning, mopping. They change the sheets on every bed if we leave out clean sheets, but no other laundry. They take out the trash.

We did some pre-cleaning with the California people, just making sure stuff was up and off the floors/counters so that they could get to them. Our current cleaning service will put away DD's toys and straighten up counters, so I'm less concerned about pre-cleaning. Heck, sometimes I leave the toys out when I don't want to deal with them, because I know they'll put them away Smile

  • 2 bdrm/1.5 bath townhouse, she doesn't clean our basement or do laundry but does everything else.  we just have to get everything put away before she gets there so no cleaning but a lot of straightening since we have so much crap with 2 kids in a TH.  it's $65 every two weeks.

  • Ours is $90/visit, we have her come in every other week.  Our house is 2300 sf, 3 bed, 3 full baths.

She cleans bathrooms and the kitchen, all surfaces (dusts, vacuums, sweeps, mops).  She does not do dishes or laundry.  I pay her extra to clean things like the oven  - $20 1-2x a year is worth it to me - and windows.  She also cleans the microwave and toaster oven.  She is very thorough.

All surfaces need to be cleared off of clutter, and no dishes in the sink for her to clean the sinks out.

We live north of Boston, so very HCOL.  We found her via word of mouth, which is what I recommend.

    1) $110 every other week

    2) 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, 2 half baths, 3 levels with a variety of floor surfaces (hardwood, tile, granite, carpet, marble)

    3) I use a national chain & they list their services on the website: www.maids.com

    4) every other week

    5) I don't pre-clean, but I do straighten up -- which annoys DH to no end. I'd rather they spend time cleaning vs putting something away & then I'll never find it.

  • 1) In Florida, we pay $75

    2) 3 bdrm/2bath with terazzo floors and carpet in DD's room

    3) Thorough cleaning of kitchen and bathrooms, washing bedsheets and towels and remaking beds, cleaning fans, baseboards, sweeping and mopping floors, dusting

    4) Every other week

    5) I try to straighten up by getting the tables cleared of junk, clothes put away, but that's about it.

  • 1) How much is your cleaner? $100

    2) How big is your place? 4 bedrooms 3.5 baths.  Mostly carpet with some hardwood downstairs.

    3) What does your house cleaner do ie vacuum, dust, stove top, oven, mop, laundry etc?? Everything but laundry.

    4) How often do they come in?  Every two weeks.

    5) How much pre-cleaning do you do before they arrive? Just general straightening so the ladies can clean surfaces.  We end up with piles of things in the kitchen so having someone come every two weeks helps us keep the clutter down.  Smile

  • 1) How much is your cleaner? $70 for first visit, $60 each subsequent visit

    2) How big is your place? ie 3 br, 2 bath etc...carpet vs hardwood floors. Is there a different charge for the different type of flooring etc?  3 bed, 2 bath, tiled everywhere except bedrooms which are carpeted.  Total living area is 1450 square ft.

    3) What does your house cleaner do ie vacuum, dust, stove top, oven, mop, laundry etc??  floors, bathrooms, dusting furniture/ceiling fans/fixtures/blinds/etc., oven, load and run dishwasher if needed.  She would do the stove except we have a sealed glass electric which is always clean.  The only laundry she will do is sheets and towels, but we told her don't worry about those.

    4) How often do they come in?  every other week

    5) How much pre-cleaning do you do before they arrive?  We eliminate all clutter and put out clean sheets for the beds

  • We're in Atlanta.

    1.  $100.  Our last person (who was not very good) was $85.

    2.  4 BR, 2 BA.  1/2 carpet, 1/2 hardwoods, but it doesn't seem to matter.

    3.  Clean floors -- sweep, mop, vacuum.  Dust, bathrooms, vacuum furniture, clean kitchen countertops/stove/microwave, take out trash.  Periodically, dust blinds, cleam baseboards.

    4.  Once per week.

    5.  I always straighten everything up, put clothes away, leave it in the condition that makes is easy for him to concentrate on the cleaning, not the straightening.

  • I WISH I could answer that...can't afford a cleaner- so I do it all on the weekend- at least it's FREE!!
  • Upstate NY:

    1.  $12/hour plus tip

    2.  2 bedroom, 2 full bath, all carpet upstairs, laminate floors downstairs

    3.  She vacuums, mops, dusts, windows, counter tops, bathrooms, changes sheets once a month, and has offered to do dishes or laundry if needed.

    4.  She comes every other Tuesday for 2.5 hours.

    5.  The only pre-cleaning is picking up and we vacuum downstairs almost daily and run the steam cleaner a couple times in between her visits.  We have found that we have more incentive to keep the house picked up as we go so it doesn't get overwhelming.

For the longest time I couldn't imagine having a cleaning lady but my parents gave me 12 hours worth for my birthday and I wouldn't go back.  It has reduced my stress level so much and just feels so nice to come home to a clean house.
