Hi, all- I come from TTTC and I'm a newbie to this board! We're cautiously expecting twins in March, and I thought I'd see who else here is expecting twins, as I know y'all are out there! I thought it would be fun to see who the other twin moms-to-be are. A few questions...
1) What about your pregnancy do you think has been different or unusual because you're carrying twins?
2) Do you think your medical care has been different (more appointments or more tests) from singleton moms?
3) Biggest challenge so far?
4) Biggest positive so far?
Nice to meet you all!
Re: Who's expecting twins?
Congrats on your twins.
1.) I think my symptoms came on stronger and faster (and are lasting longer) because there are two in there.
2.) Definitely better. I am seeing a Peri, not an OBGYN, though. I have u/s every 2 weeks and then weekly at some point. He takes fantastic care of me and takes the time every visit to address any questions and to just sit and talk to me. He also gave me his personal email and cell phone for any questions, which is nice.
3.) The all day sickness
4.) Knowing I have two babies in there! Takes some pressure off thinking about another round of IVF down the road.
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
I'm not really far enough along to answer any of your questions, but I just wanted to say that we're due date twins (literally)!
ETA: I guess I could add that I'm going to be seeing a Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor plus my OB but that's more for my MTHFR. My RE is holding on to me almost two weeks after he normally releases to be cautious and I've been told I'll have more restrictions and ultrasounds than a normal singleton pregnancy. I also grew out of my normal jeans at 7 weeks and I'm almost out of jeans that were one size bigger too. I will likely be out of those and strictly in maternity pants around 10-11 weeks.
Hi, I'm 3 weeks behind you, so I can't really answer any of the questions. Just hoping for everything to go well at my next u/s and that I'm still going to be in the twin category then. If all goes well, I'll be seeing a specialist (a peri) in addition to my OB.
1) What about your pregnancy do you think has been different or unusual because you're carrying twins? Bedrest, long, long bedrest (home and hospital)
2) Do you think your medical care has been different (more appointments or more tests) from singleton moms? yes, hospital bedrest and lots and lots and lots of appointments
3) Biggest challenge so far? Do you see a pattern here???? being on bedrest, PTL and twin discordance... I would say the twin discordance has been the biggest challenge, because they gave me pills for PTL that seem to be working. (I am carrying identical twins so this will be different for fraternal)
4) Biggest positive so far? Knowing that in a few weeks I will have 2 beautiful little girls!!!! I love, love, love feeling them move around.

congrats on your twins! there is also the multiples board dont forget!
1. different, i started feeling it a lot earlier than my singleton. just being extra tired and walking up and down stairs breathless, etc.
2. at 24 weeks i started seeing my ob every two weeks.
3 challenge, trying to figure out how we can afford it all! just the extra things when we thought we would be ok with just one from dd. and just being breathless and having pains when walking too much.
4. just being able to feel which twin is moving when. and the joy of carrying two.
Congrats & Welcome! What a fun idea...
1) What about your pregnancy do you think has been different or unusual because you're carrying twins? I have had a relatively uneventful pregnancy, but since there is a higher chance of complications and delivering early, I have done everything earlier than my friends with singletons. For example, I had my shower at 24 weeks, and made sure the nursery was complete by the start of my 3rd tri. I wanted to be prepared if I had to be on bedrest.
2) Do you think your medical care has been different (more appointments or more tests) from singleton moms? Yes. I have seen an OB & a perinatologist since 12 weeks when I was released from my RE. We have had ultrasounds with the peri every 3 weeks.
3) Biggest challenge so far? Moving around... hehe. Also, finding clothes that fit at the end. Almost all of my maternity shirts are TOO short.
4) Biggest positive so far? How helpful everyone has been. My friends, family, and work have all been super understanding of my limitations.
Come over and see us on the multiples board too!
Welcome and Congrats!!!
1. I'm getting more attention from the doctors but this could also be b/c I've had 2 losses and am also at risk of a uterine rupture (uterine surgery+twins=nervous doctors). The weight gain is also different than a singleton - its great to know its ok to gain weight, esp in the 1st tri when I was always hungry.
2. Yes. I see both my OB and MFM every 2-4 weeks. I also can see just my OB and not rotate through all the doctors since I'm high risk and (hopefully) having a scheduled c-section.
3. Trying to stay positive and happy despite being afraid and anxious that my body will fail and my babies will be harmed.
4. Knowing I have two little ones in there and seeing them waving and moving on u/s. I can't wait to start feeling them!
Congrats and welcome to the board! I am expecting twin boys at the end of January.
1) What about your pregnancy do you think has been different or unusual because you're carrying twins? I think that I am showing a little earlier and also experiencing symptoms such as swollen feet and carpal tunnel earlier that you normally would with a singleton pregnancy.
2) Do you think your medical care has been different (more appointments or more tests) from singleton moms? YES! I have had a lot more ultrasounds!
3) Biggest challenge so far? Probably back and foot pain. And trying to eat a lot of protein.
4) Biggest positive so far? All the fun attention that goes along with being pregnant with twins.
1. I think I have been a lot sicker starting a lot sooner, and that it will last a lot longer. ;p
2. Definitely more appointments. I've had 4 ultrasounds already, and will have one every 4 weeks at minimum. I'm going to an MFM for my NT scan, so I'm going to ask about seeing them too. My OB does a lot of twins, and she has a good rep amongst my L&D nurse friends, but I tend to be paranoid.
3. Being sick 24/7, and it's only getting worse.
4. Excited to have 2 babies, even though it's overwhelming sometimes. Looking forward to seeing them interact. It's already pretty amazing to see on the ultrasounds.
I'm responding a little late
1) What about your pregnancy do you think has been different or unusual because you're carrying twins? These are my first, so I can't really say. Def bigger earlier than I would have been with a singleton though
2) Do you think your medical care has been different (more appointments or more tests) from singleton moms? Yes, I have mthfr and am AMA, so I def fall intoteh high risk category. I see an OB and an MFM and see each of them once a month so far
3) Biggest challenge so far? Eating. I have no appetite, except in the morning
4) Biggest positive so far? We get two little ones in the end.
Nice to meet you all!
