Need help: CD and sitter (kind of long)

Our sitter has agreed to do CDs while DD is there.  We are about a week in and sitter has had leak issues every single day.  I truly thought we had repelling issues because our AI2 Bottombumpers were soaked through.  I stripped, and rinsed a ton.  Fast forward to today.  Same story...again.  I really looked the diapers over, and they are saturated....soaked clear through.  Only two came back dirty for a 9 hour day.  Clearly, she is not changing enough.  They are not repelling.  Based on the weight of the diapes and the fact that everything (including her clothes) are soaked through, she is not changing frequently enough.  We NEVER have had a leak in those diapers at home.

How do I approach her and let her know that she needs to change DD every 2-3 hours in CDs without turning her off to CDing at her house?   I want to be tactful, and firm,  without finger pointing.  I do not want to allow her to let DD baste in sposies.  No wonder why we had such god awful rash issues with sposies.  They were fermenting on her a$$.  Please tell me I am not wrong to be hella pissed over this.

  • I don't think you have any problem telling her this regardless of whether it's cloth or not! Hell, I would't even mention that you want her to change her every 2-3 hours because of the cloth and just say that you want her changed every 2-3 hours because that's what should be happening regardless of the type of diaper that's being used. I would never let my ds sit in any diaper, cloth or disposable for 4.5 hours without being changed. That's just unacceptable.

Thank you for cerifying that I am NOT going over the edge batty on this.  My sentiments exactly.  I am pissed.  We used to stuff sposies in the bag without counting them and had no idea how many changes she did during the day.  Now I send 4 CDs and we always get one to two back with the whining about leaks.  I.am.not.a.crazy.mama.  Yay!  I am going to insist that she change every 2-3.  Period.

  • You are not crazy at all. If I left my kid in a disposable (or cloth for that matter) for that long all day he would be rash city. I can't imagine that she was doing that and it's no wonder that she's having issues with the cloth. I mean think of it this way - the typical kid is awake for 12 hours out of the day so every 4.5 hours means 3 diapers during the day and then one for overnight? I mean are there really people out there that only change their kids 4 times a day?!

  • We go through at least 6-7 diapes a day on the weekends.  Granted, that is ALL day, which DD is not at the sitter all day, but for 9 ish hours I expect 3-4 changes.  I am so pissed.  I just need to tell her that she need to change every 3 hours max.  That means at least 3 times while DD is there.  I am really pissy that I did a stripping cycle with the diapers because I thought they were repelling.

  • I'd be furious if my child were only changed twice a day.  How would the sitter like to sit in urine/feces for four hours at a time?

    LAME.

  • Many state daycare regulations tell daycares to change diapers every 2-3 hours or as needed - meaning when they are soiled not when they are leaking! 4 hours is only allowable if the kid is asleep.

2 diaper changes in 9 hours would piss me off even for disposables, let alone cloth.

I'm having a little trouble thinking of tactful ways to say I think you're neglecting my child. Maybe just tell her that you noticed there were only 2 dirty diapers and where are the rest of them?

  • I just wanted to reiterate what everyone else has said.

I would be horrified to know that my child was sitting in the same diaper for 4 or more hours during the day. I'm not sure you need to be tactful as much as you need to be blunt and make sure your daughter is changed frequently.

    Ditto.  Seething mad.

  • Our son is at daycare for about 7 hours. I change him right before we leave and I send four cloth diapers per day. Pretty much every single day, they all come back dirty. If not all four ,there are at LEAST 3. They change every 2-2.5 hours.

Yeah, she isn't changing enough and you are not crazy.
