Success after IF

would this bother you?

My neighbor is in her late 50s, unmarried, no kids.  She's always been a little clingy, but I might just be supersensitive to it (I'm not a fan of being too close to neighbors).  When she was injured a few years ago I took her to the doctor, brought her dinners, ran some errands, etc.  When she goes OOT (almost monthly) we watch her cat.  But when DS was born she never brought over a meal, never offered to run errands or anything like that.  All she's ever offered to do is watch DS or "come over to hold him".  I would prefer to be a little more hands-off with her, but DH feels for her an encourages her interactions, so we usually wind up spending some time with her once a week or so.

Anyway, lately just coming over to hang out with us (and hold DS) hasn't been enough and she's practically begging to take him to her house.  Admittedly it's just next door and I'm sure he'd be fine, but it bugs me that she's so hellbent on getting him alone.  I'm not overprotective at all and would be fine leaving him with a lot of people...but the fact that she WANTS him alone so badly really upsets me.  I don't think she has ill intentions or anything, but I find it odd that she is so insistent about having him by herself.  DH doesn't seem to get it (although he's absolutely willing to go on my timeline as far as babysitters - isn't pushing me at all.)  Would this bother you too?

(I won't even get into the times she's taken him out of my arms, seems to think she knows what's wrong with him better than I do, and once insisted on putting him down in his stroller, rather than giving him back to me regardless of how much I told her I *liked* holding my own child.  Grr.)

Re: would this bother you?

  • Not in a million years would this somewhat odd neighbor EVER take my baby into her house without me.  Would never happen.  And I wouldn't give a crap if it hurt her feelings, especially given the fact that she's somewhat annoying AND has disrespected your wishes regarding your baby in the past.  Nope.
    Wheee!

  • Nope, I would not allow it!!  It sounds like the relationship has gotten too close for comfort as it is so I would try and pull away from her as much as possible.
