Do you wait for LO to cry at night?

DD squirms and grunts, trying to break out of the swaddle once during the night. Her eyes are closed but when I unswaddle her, she wakes up. Then she only eats for about 5 minutes on one breast and just falls fast asleep. Am I too quick picking her up?

  • If she is at a stage where she is trying to self-soothe, wait for her to really start to wake up. She may grunt and squirm herself back to sleep.

  • I think you are, maybe she is just dreaming... DD is STTN but in the morning I don't wait for her to cry, I wait for her to open her eyes and fuss a little before I pick her up
  • DD used to sleep in a bassinet in our room and I used to pick her up every time she made noise during the night even though she wasn't really awake.  Now, we have her in her bassinet in her room across the hall and I don't hear all the little grunts and groans.  She STTN now and I don't pick her up until she cries in the morning.  I think we are both getting better sleep now!
