My OB told me last week to start eating at least 1800 calories a day...I usually stick to 1200, so it felt like a lot to me, but I know it's for the little one. However, I work out 4-5 times a week and burn about 400 calories during my workouts. Does that mean I should be ingesting 2200 calories a day now? I really hope not!
Re: Working out + Calories + Baby
Were you dieting before? Or are you very petite? If not, 1200 calories doesn't sound like enough to maintain your weight, even without considering the pregnancy. I would try, if you can, to stick to your dr's recommendation of 1800 cals. I think that if you're burning 400 calories per workout, you should try to add those calories into your diet as well.
I can understand that this might be difficult, but you can definitely do it in ways that don't involve eating a bunch of donuts or milkshakes. Try adding natural fat and calories to your diet, like avocado, PB, or drink chocolate milk. Those are just a couple of suggestions. Good luck!
You should have brought this up with your OB...
You need to put the baby first. Ensuring that you are comsuming enough calories for you and for the healthy development of you baby. Not eating enough could be harmful....
I would not wish it on anyone BUT I was all worried about my kickboxing classes and heart rate numbers only to be slammed by the M/S truck. Getting up to get another ginger ale has been my exercise routine for the last 3 weeks.....
Enjoy the gym while you can. Good Luck!
?
Exactly this.. This is my 3rd and I've?exercised?with all 3. Some days I'm starving and eat a ton. ?Other days I'm not hungry at all.. ?the eating never really corresponds with my weight gain either. ?Just eat when you're hungry... and eat healthy.
I haven't been paying any attention to my caloric intake. I just try to be mindful of what is in my diet, in other words, Am I getting enough fruits, veggies, etc?? Before I got pregnant, my nutritionist estimated that I ate 2000 calories/per day on average, however b/c it was all healthy food, I've maintained a healthy BMI for several years. It just depends on WHAT your eating. I hope that makes it easier for you than counting calories
Here is an interesting website to check out:

Keep in mind, it's just a website, but it pretty much says what I figured I needed to be eating for first tri. I think as long as you're eating mostly healthy foods and keeping your hunger in check you should be fine. You're only supposed to gain a couple pounds (if that) during first tri.
This was me the first go 'round. I'd definitely err on the side of more calories if you are burning 400 calories a day, especially if your OB was unaware that your exercise level was that high (I think 2 miles of jogging only burns about 200+, right?)
Agreed. My doc said to make sure I get about 300 more calories a day. I also work out and make sure to snack on healthy stuff. Doc just said to keep my HR under 140.
