Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

18 month old doesn't want to nap

DD always went down well for naps, but lately we've noticed a change.  We tell DD that we're bringing her upstairs for naptime, and she starts crying.  Then when we get into her room, she starts crying more.  By the time I actually put her in her crib, she is practically hysterical.  She's definitely teething, and we give her tylenol/motrin to make her feel better, but I don't get the sleep thing.  It's like she's not tired, but if she doesn't take a nap, she becomes a monster.

Anyone go through something similar around this age?  Is this normal?

Re: 18 month old doesn't want to nap

  • I am going through the same thing but my son is 15 months.  It take over an hour to get him to take a nap. I am not sure what going on.  He's never really had teething problems before. But I did give him motrin just in case he  was teething.   Should I try to drop the morning nap which is usually 45mins to an hour.  However if I do, I am in the same boat as you and he will turn into a monster.  What ever it is, I hope this phase passes soon.

  • If he's resisting, you definitely should drop the morning nap.

DD was on one nap by around 13 months.
