Anyone have an Ergo Baby Carrier?

I have a Moby wrap and love love love it, but I'm thinking about getting an Ergo.  For whatever reason it seems faster to get LO in and out of....especially if they are asleep.  Just wondering if anyone has one?  What you like and don't like?  Thanks, ladies!

Re: Anyone have an Ergo Baby Carrier?

  • We have a Moby, Hotsling, and Ergo.  I like that they are all totally different style carriers and felt like I needed one of each "type".  :) That said, we haven't used the Ergo yet (we have the infant insert for it, but I think he's still too little b/c of his small size) but my cousin has one and loves it as do many other Ergo owners it seems!

  • Ditto PP. I have the ergo, slingling and sleepy wrap. I like each for different reasons. DD is almost 12 lbs so I just started using the ergo without the infant insert. It is very easy to use and very supportive. I just haven't figured out how to nurse or use the bathroom in it :)
  • I don't have either, but one of my friends recommend the Beco rather than ther Ergo. They look almost the same to me, but the beco has an extra insert that holds smaller babies more easily.

It sounds similar to the Ergo's infant insert which you have to purchase separately, but they do have something that will work for infants.

  • I had, and loved, my Moby until it got too hot. I bought the Catbird baby Pikkolo because it could do an outward facing front hold, which the ergo can't. It is super comfortable and I can't recommend it enough!!!

  • I just got my ergo and love it.  I got it on Saturday and used it that day during DS's witching hour and instead of screaming he just slept. The same thing happened last night, so it has been worth every penny.  I personally have never loved slings, so this is really my style and way better than the bjorn I used with DD and have been using with DS.

Since DS is basically 2 months old, I decided not to get the infant insert.  I just put a blanket behind him to support him better, which looking at the instructional DVD seems to be pretty similar to the infant insert.  Also, I find his head/neck really doesn't come above the top of the carrier.  The top of the carrier hits him at the top of his ears, so it supports his head pretty well, especially with a blanket in there.

I also considered the Beco a pp mentioned, but I decided that my DH would be more likely to wear the ergo.  It is just a solid color vs the beautiful prints of the Beco.

  • We have the Ergo with infant insert and the moby. So far the moby has been above my skill level, but my DH has figured it out. I have used the Ergo at the grocery store and Target. I'm not sure if she likes it - she kind of fusses when I put her in, but once she's in she's quiet and pretty much falls asleep instantly. I do get concerned about the heat factor, sometimes when I take her out she's sweaty. I asked my doctor and she said as long as I don't use it for hours on end it's OK for her to sweat.

I find it fairly easy to use, but it is pretty ugly on imo. But I guess motherhood is not about vanity!
