after reading thru the boards basically all day today im starting to think that im incredibly behind.... ![]()
i havent looked at any baby gear at all (except walking down the aisles in target, etc), we havent done anything at all in the nursery, we dont have any name ideas picked out.... etc...
i know my babyshower will be in november but we havent registered or anything like that to prepare for it...??
am i totally behind at this point?? ive been waiting til we know the sex for most of the things, but it seems like im the only one who hasnt picked everything out already.....
Re: am i completely behind??
We didn't do anything until we found out the sex. As of now, we have registered, assembled the crib and changing table, put the crib bedding into the crib, and organized her clothes by size (we got a ton of super cute hand-me-downs from SIL). We haven't painted her room, and I change the registry on a daily basis.
Don't freak out...some people just like to get things done early. I like to take my time and go a lil slower.
I don't think your behind at all!
I haven't done anything to get the room ready - short of putting a few garbage bags in there so that when I do get the motivation to do it, there are a few needed supplies already there.
Names are still a huge toss-up for us. We are slowly picking things out so that when we go to register we know what we want, and we're not standing in the isles looking like a deer in headlights. We're not registering for at least another 6-8 weeks, at the earliest.
I didn't start looking at gear or anything until I was about 18 weeks. We just registered today (I'm 25 weeks). I don't know if I'm having a shower or when. We do have a list of names, but it's still like 30 names long.
I tell people IRL we just bought the crib and everyone reacts with "oh wow, already?"
So don't feel like you're behind. Everyone kind of goes at their own pace.
Not at all. I keep feeling the same way, but I have to keep reminding myself that its not like when I planned my wedding.
We haven't done anything but look at names together! Today we happened to stop at a thrift store that had a $10 crib, so we bought it. We'll see if it's any good once it's set up. The nursery is clean and empty ONLY because we moved into the house 2 months ago. We haven't looked into any baby gear, or talked about a registry, and I haven't heard from the person that said she wanted to throw me a shower... And I'm half way! Aahhh.
Anyway, this week I'm going to focus on preparing the nursery for paint and put together the crib. Also I plan on touring the L&D ward at our hospital. I have dinner plans with the friend that talked about the shower, so I'll ask her about it again. And we have our big ultrasound! Hopefully my energy and motivation will stay with me this week. :-)
Yeah, plenty of time. I picked out some paint samples the other day, and I have made a wish list (because I think it's to early to actually register for things), but our nursery still has completely assembled computer desks in it, and most of my wedding planning stuff (I got pregnant on our honeymoon!) I'm not stressed about it at all so far; I'm 15 weeks.
I figure after my "big" ultrasound next month, I'll convert my wish lists over to registries. Then I can get my DH on the painting project....
First of all, you have plenty of time!! If your shower is in Nov, I would say you should prob register by a month before, so Oct.
We registered early because my shower was early. Also, when you register early, sometimes things get discontinued (it's happened to me), so I would suggest waiting a little while if I were you.
You should be fine. I really started looking into things around 18 1/2 weeks, after we found out the sex. I just finished registering last week at 23 weeks.
I would recommend picking up a copy of Baby Bargains though. Start reading through that to help get ready to pick out the furniture and register.
With my DD, we were at the same point as you at 16 weeks.
The nursery was still an office -- we didn't start moving stuff out of there until I was about 20 weeks.
We didn't register until I was maybe 25 weeks.
We didn't buy the crib until I was about 36 weeks. (We got the crib from IKEA, so we were able to take it home same day, rather than waiting weeks for delivery. It didn't matter anyway, because she slept in a PNP in our room until she was about 2 months old.)
We had a few names that we knocked around, but didn't choose a name until we met her.
This time around, we're in slightly better shape because we have a bunch of gear from DD. But we have not started DD's big girl room (which she will move into to free up the nursery for the new baby). We haven't even discussed names. etc. I'm not worried... we have plenty of time.
