A few short weeks from now we will welcome DS#2 and cannot decide on any names. DS #1 is Grant William so I want something that will "go with" this...DH brought up this name and I'm just not sure what I think. WDYT?
Anderson Jay (DH's middle name) [Last name rhymes with Hansen].
I worry that 1) the name is too "grown up" for a little boy 2) The first name is too long, because I wouldn't want it shortened to Andy 3) The first name and last name are too similar and sound funny. But otherwise I do kind of feel a pull towards this name. The other name we're considering is Caleb John...but I get more iffy about that name as the days go by...TIA for your opinions!
Re: WDYT of this boys name...
If your last name contains a "sen" or "son" sound, I wouldn't go with Anderson, because it could sound too rhymey.
I like the name Caleb John. It's a solid name -- why are you iffy about it?
agree with pp on the rhymey thing.
I like the name Anderson, it reminds me of that hottie Anderson Cooper. ?I don't think that Jay really goes with Anderson though-it sounds too abrupt.?
Proud Mama to Mickey (12.03.09) and Nemo (06.06.13)
I love the name Anderson but not sure I would use it with your last name.
I like Caleb--it doesn't jump out at me but it is a nice name.
ditto
I think the 3 syllable/2syllable combo keeps it from sounding too rhymey. Also, it's -erson and -ansen, which doesn't seem too matchy in the first place. If you were naming him Janson Hansen it would be a completely different story.
Anyway, I like the name. I don't think Anderson is too big of a name for a child either. As far as nicknames go, people will call him what you call him until he is old enough to decide on his own, and then it's out of your hands anyway. My brothers were called Michael and Matthew until they were in junior high and decided to go Mike and Matt. Family still calls them Michael and Matthew.
Same here. I like Anderson though, but not with a last name that ends in the same sound. I like Caleb John (or Caleb Jay) and Grant William together!
My son's name is Anderson, and I LOVE his name. ?Everyone has reacted really positively toward it. ?I'm not concerned about the "Andy" thing- DH is Jonathan and is never called Jon.
All that said....I don't think it works with a last name ending in "sen". ?Sorry. Caleb is a nice name and goes better with your last name. ?I also think using a traditional last name without any meaning is a little random- Anderson was my grandma's maiden name so it had meaning to us. ?Just my thoughts.

I agree with the pp - I wouldn't do Anderson Hansen...it's a little rhyme-y. (We have a similar problem - last name ends it -man, usually pronounced -men, which rules out all the -en, -an, -yn, etc. names for us...)
What about Caleb Jay if you want to keep your DH's middle?
Btw, if you're looking for more ideas that go well with Grant ... My cousin Grant has brothers named Adam, Benjamin and Evan.
My friend who has a Grant named her other sons Jacob, Gabriel and Micah.
This is exactly what I was thinking. I like the name, but I don't think it will sound good with your last name. Caleb John is great! Caleb Jay could work too.
