Baby Names

Trying to avoid the popular

But also don't want something really funky or on the flip side, boring.

What are your thoughts on these?   (Some of these could be considered "popular"....I haven't done much research yet..I just know Emma, Madison, Olivia, Lilly are some of the really popular ones...)

Fiona Claire

Claire Elizabeth

Delaney Rees

Alyssa Grace

Kelsey Grace

EDIT:  Rees is MIL's maiden name and is pronounced like Reese Witherspoon.

Re: Trying to avoid the popular

  • I like Fiona Claire...very pretty :)
  • Loading the player...
  • I love Alyssa..  It was one of the names on my list but DH vetoed it.

  • I LOVE Fiona, and I really like Claire. I strongly dislike Delaney. Alyssa is nms, and Kelsey seems dated to me.
  • Fiona makes me think Shrek.. sorry..

  • I like the same sort of names that you do. I think Delaney is the best name on your list for being unique but not out there. I think it's adorable!
  • I love Delaney--love it but not a fan of Reese. I would do a more traditional name with Delaney--I like Delaney Kate.

    I also like Fiona.

    Alyssa, Kelsey and Claire are NMS.

  • Love Fiona Claire

  • I love the name Fiona, and Elizabeth Claire is our #1 choice, so I like Clair Elizabeth, too (but both names are pretty popular right now).  Alyssa and Kelsey are sort of blah compared to your other names, imo.  Delaney is okay.
  • I like Fiona Claire and Claire Elizabeth. :)

    This...I really like Delaney though!

    Me too, although I do like the name so if you don't mind that connection go with it. My favorite is Claire Elizabeth, but I just finished reading The Time Traveler's Wife so I might be a little biased right now Smile

  • I like Fiona the best.
  • I love all of them except Fiona.  The rest were all on my list, especially Claire and Delaney!  Very cute!!
  • I do not like Fiona...but Kelsey and Alyssa are very nice and not too popular. I think either of those would be good choices. GL!
  • Fiona! It was high up on my list, I really like it.
  • I like Fiona and Claire!

  • I LOVE Fiona Claire!  Fiona is one of my top names, but DH won't let me because of Shrek... =(

    Claire Elizabeth is also really nice.  Alyssa, Kelsey and Grace seem pretty popular to me, and therefore (no offense to anyone) generic, and Delaney Rees is NMS.

  • I love Claire and Alyssa. Kelsey is OK. Not a fan of Delaney or Fiona.

  • I like them all except for Delaney and Fiona.?

    My order of preference would be Claire, Alyssa and than Kelsey, but all 3 are nice names. ?

  • Fiona Claire is very nice. Claire Elizabeth would be my second choice.
  • Kelsey jumps out as one that seems very little-girl to me. I just don't think of it as a good name for an adult woman. The others are all pretty, though.
  • Well, you definitely have popular names like Claire, Elizabeth, and Grace.  I really like Delaney Rees but I would spell it Reese (otherwise I want to say Rees to rhyme with bees).
  • Surprisingly, Delaney is more popular than Fiona!  Here's the national ranks:

    Delaney = #209

    Fiona = 347

    Claire = 62

    Alyssa = 16 (I'm surprised by that, too!)

  • oops - missed Kelsey and Elizabeth

    Kelsey = 195, but it was 33 in the mid '90's

    Elizabeth= 9

    I think that it's surprising that Alyssa is so surprising because it seems like a 'normal' name and we don't notice when someone has that name.  But we remember it when we here someone named Fiona!

  • I like Delaney.  :)  ALyssa is kind of 80s

  • I adore Fiona!  And I'm trying to do the same as you - avoid the popular names...but it's so hard.

    Love Fiona Claire and Claire Elizabeth.

    Delaney seems very trendy. Alyssa seems dated (aka Alyssa Milano) and I'm just OK about Kelsey.

  • in order... Delaney, Claire, Fiona

    other two are nms

  • We are seriously thinking about using Delaney as our name if DC is a girl. We considered this name with DS and I asked people here if they thought Delaney was a little girl name or one she could grow into. I got a lot of good responses saying that it was a name she could live with her entire life.

     I also like Fiona Claire. I wouldn't worry about the Shrek associations. Besides, by the time she can watch it, Shrek won't be as popular, you know?
