2nd Trimester

Question about round ligament pain

Hey ladies, I am just popping in from 1st tri.  I was wondering if any of you could describe what round ligament pain feels like and where it is located.  Also, do you know when it generally starts?  I only ask because I have been having strange cramps today on my right side and someone said they could be round ligament pain but I thought it came later.  Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Question about round ligament pain

  • Mine has been on my left and right sides. It is a sharp pain like a sudden pulled muscle. I now have to hold my tummy when I sneeze after I thought my side would split open! :)

  • Sharp quick pains, and I agree with pp, I sneezed earlier and it was followed by an 'ouch'. However, I had strange cramps on my left side, nearish my rib cage at about 7-8 weeks, nothing severe more like dull, I called my dr for reassurance and was told that as long as it's not severe and there isn't any bleeding - not to worry, its everything moving, stretching and shifting.  So, thats my two cents for you.

  • i think it may be implantation pain, but not sure. i have *constant* round ligament pain, and it sucks bad, but it's more likely you get to enjoy this a little later when your tummy/uterus starts growing and stretching to make room for little bebe. GL, but ask your doc to see if they have any suggestions
  • Mine started at 6 weeks. It generally happens when you move suddenly and your abdomen isn't ready for it. Mine often happens when I lay on my back and laugh/cough/sneeze. Oh, and the pain is horrible sometimes. There is nothing to worry about and nothing you can really do about it. Just be careful of how you move or get up from sitting. At least you can rest assured that your uterus is getting ready for carrying that LO of yours. Good luck with this (and everything else, lady!)!

    This!

and I've found that if i have enough time, and I can sit up before i sneeze it helps aleviate some of the stabbing sensation

  • Oh!  I have definitely been in pain after sneezing, always on that right side.  I definitely think I know what you are talking about, but that isn't this weird pain.  This weird pain feels like a bubble.  I know I am not describing it well and honestly, if I hadn't already had an u/s to rule out ectopic I would be afraid that is what this was from.  It doesn't happen very often and it doesn't really hurt just uncomfortable.

    Well, thanks!

  • I've gotten it mainly when I stand up too fast or if I stand up while twisting from the side (like if I'm laying on the couch or something).  I got a horrible RLP today that lasted for awhile... I think that hubby was worried.  He made me sit back down and went to do what I was going to do when I stood up.

This is TMI, but when I get those lovely gas pains that goes along with pregnancy, it feels like a bubble.... maybe its gas?  Just another thought.

  • I just had my first one yesterday. Thankfully my sister-in-law was in the same room (she's had 3 kids in the last 4 years) so I could ask her what they felt like to make sure it was it. It's like when you get a stitch in your side, only more concentrated in one spot. Mine lasted a few minutes - I finally got it to stop when I sat down on the couch and must've stretched it just right.  I had been worried at first, because the day before I had had some minor spotting (got an appt. the same day with the doc and everythig was fine), and the pain just made me panic.

You're going to feel all kinds of random weird stuff that you've never felt before!
