we are going to do a BBQ at our house for both sides of our family - probably about 10 total will be there. of course we will do the 1st cake mess but i'm going to keep it low key.
after i posted this i started to think of a bunch of stuff we could do but everything i've read says that the LO doesn't know what's going on and so not to "waste" your money. TORN!
(I have "waste" in quotes b/c you could waste your money on worse things then celebrating such a great little kid!)
My baby is barely 5 months, and I'm already thinking about this.
I'm pretty torn. Part of me wants to have a party, but we live in a small apt. (so we'd have to move it somewhere), and all but two of the kids we know (nephews, friends, etc.) are sooo much older (10 and up). So it'd just be a bunch of adults.
The more I think about it the more I just want to make him a cake, do the cake smash thing and get him a couple of gifts with just his daddy and me.
Ours will be very small but I am trying to do a couple "special" things. I am making the giant cupcake and I'm getting him a first bday shirt and bday hat. DH thinks I'm making a big deal about it because of these things I want to have but if he had any idea what goes into some first bdays!
Probably not. It's my mom's birthday too (same day!) so we'll probably have my parents and DH's, plus maybe sisters if they can come. Maybe 6 people total aside from us?
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind."

we are just having close family ( I have a big family so even with just close ones till will be about 20+ people.) DH and I throw a huge fall festival at our home every year for everyone we know and it will be about 2 weeks before A's b-day so we don't want two huge parties back to back.
We will do the smash cake and snacks. I think I will also do a dvd to play durring the party of pictures from the last year.
Definitely not. We live half way across the country from our families, and dd was born near the winter holidays so our local friends will either be out of town or partied out. It will definitely be low key.
We won't. Very likely just the 3 of us will do something fun - I'm sure we will celebrate in some way as we visit family over the holidays (his birthday is Dec. 28).
We're not having a big party. It will just be immediate family, so aside from DH & I there will be 10 adults & 5 "kids" (I put this in quotations because 3 of them are teenagers) who are invited. Almost everyone lives out of town & DD's bday is Dec.31st, so I don't even know if everyone will come (even though we'll probably have the party Jan.2nd- DH's family is weird about "traveling" the 3 hours to see us).
We're having about 25 people at Sasha's (and that's just immediate family). It's still going to be fairly low-key, we'll have some food, play some games, have a slideshow of DD from her first year and do the cake/present opening. Couple of hours. We're doing it at the ILs' house, since we're in a two-bedroom condo and won't fit everybody.
Re: anyone else NOT thowing a giant 1st bash?

We had 20 people today. DS won't remember any of this, but I enjoyed it.
