Baby Bargains and Convertible Car Seats

I should probably break down and get a Baby Bargains but I feel like I have made most of the big decisions without one. I am really struggling with picking out a convertible car seat. We don't have a big budget so I would rather not get a Britax if there are other options. Can anyone tell me what BB says about other brands? The Evenflo Symphony seems to get good customer reviews at BRU, but there is no review for it yet on Consumer Reports which has been my main source of info so far.

TIA for any help!

Re: Baby Bargains and Convertible Car Seats

  • Good: Cosco Scenera, Evenflo Titan Elite

Better: Sunshine Kids Radian 65, The First Years True Fit

    Best: Britax Roundabout, Britax Marathon

Grandma Buying: Britax Boulevard, Safegaurd Child Seat, Recaro Signo

  • Another carseat I've heard good things about (don't remember if it is in BB) is the Evenflow Triumph Advance.

  • We're getting the maxi-cosi priori --- COnsumer Reports rated it well as did Baby Bargains.  I love the looks of ....and that it'll fit in my little civic. Apparently it's easy to transfer from car to car as well, which is good because I think it's pointless to get 2 car seats (although I maybe be very naive in this thought...time will tell)
  • You have plenty of time and can get an unreal deal on a Britax if you keep your eyes open and jump on it the second you see it.

I got a cowmooflauge print Britax Marathon for J in my car for $135.

It was a new in box, tags still attached, previous month DOM, internet return to Babies r us. I got the open box discount and then was able to use a 15% off a car seat coupon and a 15% off any item coupon.

A few months later I got a Marathon in Tan Swirl for $149.

Amazon was running a fantastic sale and offering a $50 instant rebate on Britax seats. During that sale they had the roundabout in Bellamy for $109. It must have been March-ish, because I would have snapped up the roundabout for new baby if I knew we were expecting. :)

Two weeks ago I snagged a Roundabout in Maze for new baby at Target's car seat clearance for $114. The DOM was a little older than I would have liked, but for a $100 Britax - I'll deal.

And if you get gift cards or have returns from your shower you can get a decent price on the Roundabout 50 from BRU. It retails $199.99 and you can use both a %15 off a car seat and a %15 off any item and pay $144.49. www.albeebaby.com has an adorable girly print Marathon for $179.99 with free shipping.

My point is that you can pay Evenflo money and get a better seat if you shop hard for it. www.babycheapskate.com is a blog that usually will post car seat deals.

If you are getting an infant seat you probably have until June-ish to buy a convertable, if you want a Britax for a small price I'm pretty sure you can find one by then!

  • Yes - Baby Bargains recommends not registering for a convertible seat, rather just waiting until your baby needs one (probably will be at least 6 months), since technology and patterns change.
  • We registered for the Evenflo Triumph Advance DLX Car Seat  in Lincoln, at BRU, holds 50 pounds, great safety features, and we love the fabric.

  • ditto waiting for deals. Britax has regular sales semi-annually -- I they are usually in February and September. I got DD's seats during one of those sales, for a significant discount. And yes, specific covers/patterns do go on even deeper discount fairly regularly. You've got a lot of time, so you can definitely get a great deal on a Britax.

We have two Britax seats along with a Scenera that we used in our old sitter's car and for travel, and the Britax's are WAY better. The Scenera is fine from a safety perspective and everything, but it's just little things that make the difference -- like tightening the harness is much easier. That's something you do many times a day, so it's a pain when it's not seamless.

Mommy to DD1 (June 2007), DS (January 2010), DD2 (July 2012), and The Next One (EDD 3/31/2015)

  • We're getting the Graco Myride. Keeps babies rear facing until 40lbs, forward facing until 65, and only costs $150.
