  • I did after my doc found a soft marker for Down's in one of my kids. I would have aborted if one of them had Down's so it was important.
  • We didn't do one bc we personally would not have done anything differently if we had been given any type of news.  We didn't feel it was worth the risk.
  • I didn't. I would not have aborted if something came back bad (personal choice) so it was not worth the risk. The risk is much higher for multiples - so unless it would make you do something different I wouldn't do it. You can tell just about all the same things from a good level 2 ultrasound.

This.  We waived all testing because we knew we wouldn't do anything with the results.  Our thought was that if the babies were able to make it to term, then they were healthy enough for us and should there have been any conditions, we would deal with it then.  Also, Susan is correct, a level 2 would catch something serious.

  • Ditto susanb.

  • We didn't.  It was actually never offered.  It wouldn't have mattered though, we would have kept them.

I have heard that some dr's will suggest them just so the family can be prepared at birth and have any needed medical equipment available.

  • I did.

Because my blood work came back high for T18 & Downs on the NT test.

I of course found out after the fact that the reason it came back high was because they were indentical and shared the same placenta.

We talked to a genetic counsler before we had the amnio who stated because of my age, I was 38 when I delivered them that she would have told me not to have the NT test and go right for the amnio.

It was scary, but I would do it again in an heartbeat.  I have another child who is a toddler and I needed to know.

If it came back that the babies had T18 we would have terminated the pregnancy.

We made choice not to talk about downs and what we talk about it and make a choice oncel the results came back.

In any event here is my take on them. An Amnio is a personal choice and should be made between the mother and father of the baby.  No matter what your choice is don't let anyone make you feel guilt or bad about it.

Amnio is a hot topic and a lot of people feel that if you won't termniate the pregnancy why bother.   But some people just need to know.

If you are going through trying to figure out if you want one or not - good luck in whatever choice you make

    Surprise

  • Thank you everyone.  DH and I are kind of on different sides of this, and it's such a sensitive subject, so I thought it would be good to find out what other MoM's did.  We have our first appt with our Peri tomorrow, and with our regular OB.
