I always loved the name Ryan for a girl but DH said it was a boys name and was set against it. We compromised and decided months ago on Charlotte Ryan as our little girl's name. At my baby shower I even got personalized things. Now he wants to go with Ryan Charlotte instead because it goes better with our first names... Neil and Erin. Both four letters....
Now I am indecisive .. Is Ryan too much of a boys name or is it more like Cameron, Avery, Jordan and being excepted as a girls' name.
Re: 5 days to go DH wants to switch the name.
I think Ryan is definitely being accepted as a girls name but I like it better with an E (Ryen) for a girl...
I think of it as a boy's name. I do like it a lot as Charlotte Ryan. Plus, you already got stuff personalized. Why does it have to go with your names?

I don't think you should switch to Ryan Charlotte just because your DH thinks it goes better with your names.
I do think of Ryan as first being a boy's name however, I have a girl cousin named Rian. I think the alternative spelling is more feminine.
Not sure what to do about the personalized stuff though. Good luck!
Stick with Charlotte, it is a good compromise. Ryan is still mainly a boy name.
i went to HS with a female ryan. she spelled it ryann.
i much much prefer charlotte.
its on our short list.

Ryan is a boy's name. I know a lot of people are using boys names for girls now, but as someone who listened to my sister Kasey (which is really a pretty unisex name) talk for 26 years about how much she hates her name because the only people who have her name are "boys and dogs"; I would never do that to my kid. She has always been upset, ashamed and embarrassed by it and for a long time talked about changing her name. If it wasn't such a hassle and didn't cost money, I think she would've. Now that she's grown up and has met a few other girls with her name she's let a lot of that go, but she still gets mail addressed to Mr. Kasey xxx, and there are always instances when she's on rosters in school (college) and applying for jobs, etc. where people are suprised when they see her because they think she's a boy. It did not make for a fun start to a job interview. It's just always sucked for her. If you name you daughter Ryan, people will really always assume she's a boy.
Stick with Charlotte.
Stick with Charlotte. I don't like Ryan as a girl name at all. Very cute boy name though.
This. I think Charlotte is a much better name and your DH's reason for wanting to switch the name around is silly.
I actually see the flip side in this. We named our daughters Alexandra and Taylor - If DD1 put Alex it is not a given that either are girls or boys. That may get them an interview when they would have otherwise been overlooked. I think it takes a strong girl/woman to pull off a masculine name, but it can also work in their favor. Ryan was/is our girl #3 name. (Maybe up in the air after our neighbor had a boy and named him Ryan.) I say go stick with your gut. I like Ryan better than Charlotte, but it is not my choice it is between you and your DH.
I also want to say I love unisex names for girls not boys. I have met three female Ryan's and they all were very pretty and confident. I am mad at dh to finally give n this late in the game. I think we are going to see her first.
I definitely think 'BOY' for Ryan.
It doesn't matter if the name goes with the parents names or not...I don't see why it would!
I love Ryan for a girl..and i really like a lot of the pp spelling variations. It is on our short list. For some reason though I like unisex names better on girls.
I am bias though bc we both have unisex names, Stacey(me) & Sinclair and are trying to stick with that theme when we are blessed to have kids.
Good luck! either way i dont think you can go wrong!

I have a boys name. Your sister sounds weak minded and immature. I never whined like this.
Honestly, this is 2009, not the era of Mad Men. I see much more advantages to giving a girl a girl's name than the opposite.
1) Less confusion as the poster with the sister's name Kasey said
2) Most employers today do not overlook candidates because they are women. If they do, is that somewhere you want to work?
3) In some cases, being a woman might help get someone noticed on a resume--the whole affirmative action thing (rightly or wrongly)
Did anyone watch that Cheerleader Nation show? The coaches daughter was named Ryan. I loved that show!
Your husband wants to flip the names so that everyone's first name has 4 letters? That's ridiculous.
I think Charlotte Ryan flows nicely, and you can always call her Ryan if you really want to. I do think of Ryan as a boy's name, and I really hate all the 'feminine' spellings (Rhyan, Ryann, Rian, whatever). They look totally made up. If you want to name your girl Ryan, do it. Don't bastardize the spelling to make yourself feel better about giving your girl a boy's name.
I have only known one male Casey.. and the other Casey/Kasey's that I have know.. oh about 10 in my life have been girls, I think it's strange that your sister thinks her name is only for boy
