I've had my heart set on a round crib & went to look at one this weekend...the boutique owner no longer carries them!
She stopped carrying them 3 years ago because she claims they are unsafe. I searched and did not find any reports saying they were unsafe.
Has anyone heard they are unsafe? Or does anyone own one - are they sturdy?
Re: Are Round cribs unsafe?
I could be wrong since I never did research on a round crib, but I wouldn't think they're more unsafe than a drop side crib. All cribs are federally mandated to follow specific guidelines with their slots and spacings and whatnot. Look to see that they meet these guidelines as well as have adjustable heights so that you can lower it when the baby learns to sit and stand up.
I would think that they're unpopular because they're expensive and hard to find accessories for. The most popular cribs seem to be those that convert into toddler and full size beds, so it doesn't seem like you're getting your money's worth with them. If you don't mind spending your money on them and you research and don't find recalls or other bad news on them, then buy it.
