Baby Names

Hunter for a girl!?!?

SERIOUSLY!

I am not for boy names on girls AT ALL...and am only lukewarm to using unisex names b/c of confusion. Last year I taught a girl named Hunter and I was just looking through my daughters' yearbook and saw another little girl named Hunter. Is it just me...but I see a total BOY in that name!!? (someone walking through the forest huntimg comes to mind) I have had all girls...thank goodness b/c it seems like no boy names are safe from the girls!

Re: Hunter for a girl!?!?

  • My nephew's name is Hunter. I don't think a girl should be named Hunter.

  • Hunter does not sound girlish to me at all! I got a birth announcement the other day for a little girl named Logan and I thought that was weird too!

  • I was thinking about the name Hunter today.  I agree, it's sort of boy-like (and I know a guy named Hunter), but then I also remembered that model, Hunter Reno.  Yeah, no names are safe.  I like boyish nicknames for girls (i.e., Charlie, the women on Sisters...), but not straight out boy names on girls.

  • How about naming her Gatherer instead?

The girls on Sisters all had long formal names, I think that's different.

  • I normally like boy names for girls, but Hunter is a very boyish sounding name.

  • A girl at our old church was Hunter too.

We have Alex and Taylor, so I am all for boy/unisex names for girls!

  • i actually like it!

This statement actually bothers me more than a girl named Hunter.  I do not hunt, but it is a very stereotypical thing to say.

  • i don't like the name hunter for a boy or a girl.

Why is it stereotypical for the name Hunter to conjure up images of hunting?

  • this. That is what a hunter is! why is it stereotypical??
  • I am a hunter (it is just normal for girls or boys to hunt where I am from), but I personally do not like the name Hunter for a girl.
  • i like it and see it as unisex bc the only hunter i have only seen is Hunter Tylo...soap actress. I would prob never use it though.

  • I despise Hunter for either sex. It sounds WT to me.
  • My cousin is named Hunter Nicole, she goes by both names. Hunter was her grandmothers maiden name.

  • I don't like it
  • I say Hunter is ICK for a girl. And, truly, the whole boy's names for girls is getting tiresome. At first (like 10 years ago) the random girl named boy was fresh and cute, but now it is just plain old.

  • I also think its a boy name. I do know a girl with that name though, but to me it's very manly.

Stereotypical or not, that is what Hunter means.
