What do you think?

My friend went into labor last night 3 weeks early so I don't know if she was as prepared as she wanted to be. I was thinking of making a lasagna thursday and taking it to them when they got home so if they want to freeze it they can or make it within a few days. Did any of you already moms like this???? I don't want to intrude but want to do something.

any other food suggestions that freeze well and heat easily?

  • My local mom's group does this. Three meals a week for a month. I think it's very nice.

My freezer stash was lasagna, mac & cheese, pot roast, broccoli/chicken/rice, soups.

  • Baby Bean- I want to be part of your Mom's group!  That's amazing!

I LOVED when people brought us food.  I was amazed @ how often I forgot to just sit & have something to eat.  The easier, the better- so anything premade is fantastic!

  • It's so awesome when people cook for you or bring you food during those first few weeks!  My mom brought us stuff like chicken, pot roast, and stuffed shells a couple times a week.

  • Your friend will appreciate your help so much and that is a great way to help. We have been getting premade food from our moms and I cannot explain how much that helps. Not to worry about cooking for a day and get some extra time to rest/spend with the baby and to get home cooked meal is really great.

You could make really anything. We don't freeze our food, we just keep it in a fridge and eat leftovers next day or day after. You can give her a call on the day off or or day before and just tell her that you will be bringing food.

You are such a good friend!

  • That sounds like a great idea.  DH ended up going out for a lot of take-out just because it was easier than trying to deal with making dinner

  • Also- another suggestion is getting premie/newborn clothes.  Everyone always says how newborn clothing is a waste and don't get too many outfits.  DS was 7.5 pounds when he was born ( so pretty average) and was swimming in 0-3 month clothes.  I had very few newborn outfits, so we went out like the second day home to get more just so he'd have something to wear that didn't swallow him.  He ended up wearing those for a solid month

  • Renee - you should see how much clothes that baby has!!! he probably has more than me! lol

  • but did he get tinyclothes?  DS's closet was literally packed, but most things were 0-3 and went up from there.  I had so many people say not to buy newborn and of all the piles of clothes I got at my shower, not a single item was newborn.  Same thing happened to my friend.  She had twin girls, so people went nuts buying cute girl clothes.  They were born very petite and had almost nothing to wear because very few items were smaller than 0-3 month

  • I think thats a great idea and something your friend would really appreciate it!
  • Sorry, I've been crazy at births, but I think that this is a wonderful idea.  Actually, one of the things I strongly encourage my clients to do is to request that friends a family who are "close enough" to you to come over when you are so immediately post partum either bring a meal, do laundry or dishes when they are there, or both.  ;)  It gives the community around you something to organize, and makes sure that you have nothing to do but take your "babymoon."
