Broderick?

What do you all think of the name Broderick? We want a strong but unique boy's name that has a cute nickname option for the toddler years. The nickname is Brody.

I thought this sounded outlandish at first, but it's growing on me... We have a one syllable last name that starts with a hard G.

I think Brody is a weird nn, since it's pronounced "Broad-erick, not BROE-derick." It's a decent name but I can only think of Matthew Broderick, and it seems a little random if it's not a family name.

I agree that it seems random if it isn't a family name. I've said this a million times, but this last name as first name trend is NMS. I immediately think of Matthew Broderick just because I've never heard of anyone else having that last name.

Even though the names Brody and Broderick do not have the same sound you could get away with it because of the letters. You could even do Ricky.

I don't have a problem with Brody as a nn. I mean lots of nicknames aren't exactly like the full name: eg Mary = Molly William = Bill etc etc

I don't like Borderick as a name though. It seems strange to use a surname that has no family connection.

I have seen a lot of Brodys on my baby room bio website but I never thought if Broderick was there full name. But I have seen a lot.

It's actually the name of the house we live in...the style is called the Broderick, so I couldn't imagine using it as a name, but I don't think it is a bad name. I don't like the NN Brody though...

I don't like Broderick, personally, b/c I know a guy I worked with (it was his last name) and I did not care for him. Probably if I do have some kind of association with the name, I would like it. I think Brody is a perfect nn!
