2nd Trimester

Those who practice yoga, come in!

I really want to start yoga, but there're no prenatal classes in my area. What prenatal yoga DVD would you recommend for a beginner?

TIA!!

Re: Those who practice yoga, come in!

  • I'm having trouble finding a prenatal class that fits my schedule in my area too.

    I have this dvd:  https://www.amazon.com/Prenatal-Yoga-Shiva-Rea/dp/B0000BYNMH/ref=pd_bxgy_ba_img_b

It's pretty good.. It has position modifications all throughout the pregnancy and is pretty gentle and not difficult.  (People that are more advanced in yoga might find it annoyingly gentle though.)

It also incorporates Kegels into the routine.

  • I live up in the hills, so I got the Shiva Rea DVD as well and have enjoyed it a lot. Helps with RLPs and other soreness.

  • i ALSO got the shiva rea dvd... =)   i have been praciting yoga for about 7 years now, and actually felt this prenatal yoga dvd was good... for perhaps the 3rd trimester -for me and those who practice all the time. only because I felt there were too many modifications when you are very familiar with the poses.

however!!  i feel that this is PERFECT for someone who has never practiced yoga before and is now pregnant. its an excellent intro to yoga with all the modifications you may need.

plus there are different "chapters" for the different trimesters!  you should get it!! she is easy to follow too- nice gentle voice

if you dont already have a yoga mat, you can use a large beach towel... in the dvd she uses a mat, yoga blocks, a pillow and a strap. you dont really need these things, they are up to you. you can use a couch cushion and an additional blanket if needed. once you go through the video once, if you feel you need the other props you can get them later. hope alll this insight helps!

    GL!

  • Thank you!! I'll definitely get it!

Smoochienj, I do have a yoga mat, but I usually use blankets and cushions for the rest as you suggested (I have one yoga DVD that I've tried, oh, maybe... 3 times?) Great review, thank you!

  • My only complaint that I thought that people who were advanced in yoga would have was that she sometimes moves really quickly out of the poses when I'd have liked to stay in them a little longer.

All in all though, the poses feel good, and I feel good after doing the dvd.
