Worried...nestie dust please?

I had a salami sandwich yesterday for lunch (forgetting that you shouldn't eat cold-cuts when your PG) and then in the evening got a tummy-ache and diarrhea (sorry if that is TMI). Now I'm worried that it was from the salami and that I might have gotten little peanut sick too. I forget what it is babies can get if you eat cold-cuts, but am worried now. I remember I had cold-cuts when I was PG with Aidan and all was fine...but I don't think I ever got a tummy-ache afterwards. Should I be worried??

I'm checking in w/ my OB on Monday - but wanted to get some input from you all.

At any rate, mind sending some good energy/no sickness dust my way...just in case??

Re: Worried...nestie dust please?

  • I ate salami a few times while pregnant and everything was fine.  I'm sure it was two unrelated events.  Sending nestie dust your way!

  • I eat cold cuts often and did with N, including Salami.

The worry is Listeria which causes listerosis (sp) and is basically food posioning.  I believe the major worry would be that with food posioning baby wouldn't be getting enough nutrients becasue you aren't.

I wouldn't worry about it much I'm sure it was either not related or nothing to worry about since you are feeling fine now.

  • lots of good vibes for ya!

  • It's listeria & it's not the same as food poisoning, but it's much less likely that you got it. The fast onset of your symptoms just sounds like an upset stomach, maybe food poisoning, but not listeria (I think listeria involves more severe symtoms including a fever and symptoms take longer to appear). Definitely call your OB if you are concened, but I don't think you should worry - odds are pretty low of getting literia and many OBs say deli meat is fine to eat. Hope you feel better soon!

  • I specifically asked my OB, and she told me that deli meats were fine to eat (she also said that she ate them throughout her pregnancy).  I bet you and your peanut are ok.  Feel better!

  • I hope you're feeling better soon.  Listeria is very rare and since salami is a cured meat I think it would be even less likely.  When my cousin was pregnant with her first they lived in England and her high risk Peri told her that he'd only seen 2 cases in over 30 years and that is with so much more unpasturized cheeses ect.
  • Ditto the above, you're probably fine.  :)   But I'm hurling tons of Dust your way just to be on the safe side!!  ;)
  • dust headed your way!

  • Hey M!!  I hope you are feeling better!  I am sure the baby will be fine, as others have mentioned.  But more ***dust*** to you and the baby!

On a side note- WOW- we never did do our Zoo playdate!!  Someday!

  • Thanks everyone. I do feel much better and my pedi said not to worry. But...I am def. going to be avoiding deli meats simply to easy any of my anxiety!
