3rd Trimester

Blood Pressure Question

I am sure it has been asked before, but I can't find it.  Usually my BP is 120/65 or so.  At the dr. it went to 128/68 on Thursday, Dr. said looked great and I know that is fine.  Today I went and checked it at DH's grandparents and it was 138/89.  I don't know if I should call the dr. or just monitor it.  I really don't want to go in (over an hour drive) and it be nothing.  I have also had a bad headache all day, but have been having consistent headaches the past couple of months and dr. is not concerned with it.  Anyone else have readings like this?

Re: Blood Pressure Question

  • Yeah, and now I am peeing in a jug to make sure it is not Pre-E.

    Mine was 146/90 though.

  • I would definitely call.  My BP had been fine up until 34 wks when it was suddenly in the 130s over high 80s.  I wound up being induced the next day for severe pre-e and my only symptom (aside from major swelling) was headaches.  GL!
  • I would call just to be safe. High BP and pregnancy are nothing to mess with. GL!

  • Just my 2 cents.  I would drink a glass of water, lay down on your left side for 10-15 min, and take it again.  If it's still high, I would call your doc.  BP's flucuate. I take mine at work all the time and if it ever gets that high, I just drink some water and relax for 15 min and take it again.  Every time it's gone back down to a normal level.

However, if you're concerned, and you've already left DH's grandparents and don't have access to take it again I would call you doc. They'll probably just have to come in for a BP check and maybe an NST.

  • I have had borderline high blood pressure and was told by my doc to report any headaches or new swelling. Didn't you just post earlier about tingling toes and swollon feet - this could be a sign. You should call your doc.

  • Definetley call your doc!  Pre-e can develop suddenly and without any real warning and is nothing to mess around with.  My doc always tells me she would rather you call and it turn out to be nothing than to not call and it be something serious!  I am currently on bedrest for quesitonable bp's and have had two previous pregnancies with pre-e!  Get checked out for sure.  The advice about laying down for 15 min on your left side and drink a glass of water then recheck was good advice too!
  • My blood pressure was slightly higher than what my ob was liking and now I get weekly nst's and bpp's. But, I didn't have any headaches or anything like that. I had no signs of any other issues. If your headache is worrying you maybe you can call your hospital. I did that once and she helped me the best she could over the phone.
